On a serious note, thank you for your service and dedication. Appreciation can never be expressed enough to members of the United States Armed Forces.

but on a serious not 95% of my posting takes place on down time. The other 5% takes place on your dollar. :)

Its cool to be able to say this now.

James T Gantt, Jr. LT

I am still a scrub in the officer rankings but I did it.

What're you going for? Blackhawk? Apache? Or my personal

Jun 6, 2008, 8:43 PM

favorite...weather balloon! Just kidding, but the 1 time I was in a Blackhawk, I think the guy was trying to make us sick. It was a miserable time.

Blackhawk. One bad ### bird.

Re: What're you going for? Blackhawk? Apache? Or my persona

Jun 6, 2008, 8:47 PM

Blech. Death before dismount baby. Except in our case, that is usually true...Paladins don't match up well with tanks face to face. If we were to come up on enemy armor, we get the heck out of Dodge.

I do not understand your post. Many of us Tigernets

served honorably in Viet Nam, which I still consider more dangerous than Iraq (especially if you were in the Infantry over there).

My hat is off to you and we do like you but, try being an enlisted man...much more dangerous.

Again. I applaud you for what you are doing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I do not understand your post. Many of us Tigernets

Jun 6, 2008, 8:15 PM

I disagree about the enlisted ranks being much more dangerous. I served as a platoon leader in Iraq in 04-05 for an MP platoon (even though we are an FA battalion) performing convoy escort. I did the same missions, the same miles, and the same dirty stuff that goes along with war, that my men did.

Then when we got back to base and they went off to the chow hall and showers, I went to the TOC and did paperwork. I don't know how it was in Vietnam, but it seems today that the line being drawn between jr. officer and enlisted is fading when it comes to combat duty.

This is certainly not intended as a flame at your post though, I hope it hasn't come across that way.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

well I can understand some what where u r coming from.

Jun 6, 2008, 8:31 PM [ in reply to I do not understand your post. Many of us Tigernets ]

However, when I joined I had to enlist but I went in as an 0-9 Sierra, which is the equiv. to an E-5 to E-6 on the pay scale. That is what I got paid for while at basic. I still stayed the E-6 while I got MOS qualified. I cannot help that I chose to join after I graduated college but I wanted to be an officer and chose to get my degree first. However, I was enlisted and didn't get to enjoy the perks of an Officer until now even though I wore an O on my chest instead of stripes. I was still treated like a grunt. By all means though VN was in many ways more dangerous but you sir should not take anything away from any soldier. Its just as dangerous today as it was then.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

0-9 sierra is Officer Candidate. didnt explain that in above
