I've had a few chances to meet Tommy

Oct 6, 2005, 12:04 AM

I've met Coach Bowden several times. I've sat in his office and discussed jogging during a busy day. I've listened to him speak to BCM and share his personal testimony.

I've met President Barker several times. I've shaken his hand and thanked him for specific things I see him do. I've sat next to him as a dinner table and discussed the future of Clemson University.

Both of these men have latched themselves onto CLEMSON and everything that this university stands for, its students and its fans and its athletes. They are professional and they are tough - not "tough" like yelling and punching and throwing fits - I mean that these men are not driven by raw emotions. Both of them have set outstanding and impressive goals for Clemson University and Clemson Football. Both of them have been thrown into great success and great dissappointments. Neither of them has griped or complained about their situation or pointed fingers in other directions - they come back to work early the next morning and start again (while the rest of us gripe and complain and point fingers).

What does it take to get a National Championship?

What does it take to make the list of top 20 public universities?

I've never met a National Champion NCAA football coach and I've never met the President of a top 20 public University.

I've had the pleasure of meeting two men who are striving in every way possible to lead Clemson towards these goals. I stomped my feet and shouted at my television when Clemson lost to Wake Forest. I pounded my fist when Clemson dropped to #34 ranked public university. And I had the satisfaction of knowing that although these two leaders might've felt worse than I did at that moment, they hadn't stopped for a moment to regret - they continue working toward that outstanding goal.

I agree. Lots of intensity but little enthusiasm these days

I enjoyed that, and I know they work hard to do their jobs the right way.
