Baylor's baseball coach is a tool

Jun 13, 2005, 11:14 AM

After Game 1, when local boy Stan Widmann has the game-winning hit, Baylor's puerile coach Steve Smith gets irritated by the media's incessant questioning about the day's hero, so Smith makes a snide comment about Widmann and calls him "Stanley." So yesterday, after Widmann has a less-than-stellar performance (0-2 with a run-scoring error), Baylor's coach can't contain himself. Even though no one asked him about Widmann, he pipes up "Stan Widmann had a great game today, by the way." I mean, come on Coach. You're going to engage in some imaginary pi$$ing contest with an 18-year-old kid because he didn't attend your school and you're irritated by media questions about him? You're supposed to be a role model to young men, to lead by example and show them how to act appropriately in difficult situations. And instead you're going to dog out the kid, who didn't even instigate the questions or respond to your statements?

You are a toolbag. May your teams forever suck as badly as you do. There is little that is less despicable than a role model who uses his pulpit for small-minded pettiness. Here's hoping that what goes around, comes around.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I believe I heard them say that he will be the USA National

Baseball Coach. Not sure, I like Harbin's chances of making the team now.

And then he said...

"We've got a shortstop coming in from Virginia whose dad went to Clemson. Go figure" or something along those lines. Well, coach, Clemson didn't need to sign an infielder for next year because the Tigers are loaded with them. I think the fans get their lack of class from the coach.

It would be fitting if "Stanley" hit the game winner and

shut coach Smiths pie hole. That is what I love about Clemson University. We don't have to worry about our coaches dogging on other teams players. Our coaches are truly first class.

Personally

I hope he hits a homer to put Clemson ahead 19-1. Is that too much to ask? ;)
