New TigerNet Feature: TigerPulse

Jun 11, 2010, 1:46 AM

Have you ever read a post and wondered how many other TigerNet members agreed with it? Many TigerNet members never or rarely post, so it's hard to say if certain opinions are from a very vocal minority, or if they truly represent what most Tiger fans think.

TigerPulse is designed to give everyone a way to show how they feel about posts. It's a way to check the "pulse" of the TigerNet community on certain topics. It will also show how often users posts get voted down, which could help us weed out trouble makers.

You will be able to give a thumbs up or down to any post except your own of course. We will be tracking certain statistics such as how many posts you rate and the percent of thumbs up and down you give. You will get a point after casting a yet to be determined number of TigerPulse votes. Most importantly we will be calculating your personal TigerPulse, which is the average percent of thumbs up others have given your posts.

We hope this will be a fun and informative system. Please let us know if you find any bugs or have suggestions. I know a lot of you have been asking us to bring the thumbs down back, so here you go!

Note that the normal points system and Hall of Fame has not changed. HoF votes/points are for rewarding excellent posts, while TigerPulse votes are to show your approval/disapproval of certain opinions. If you think a post or poster deserves it, give them a HoF vote and point by clicking the trophy at the bottom of the post.

I wish we could, but we would get a nasty-gram from someone

Jun 11, 2010, 10:42 AM

probably. I know we have a few here and there but that might be pushing it. Good idea though.

"IDIOT POSTER OF THE MONTH SO FAR...GWP-- You have won IPM Award for your failure to completely comprehend a clear post & then choose to attack someone who points out your ignorance. While you are not yet in the same No Class Catagory as deRoberts, ClemTiger117 & Tigerdug23, you are getting closer to the Sewer Dwellers." - coachmac

So to check my understanding of this feature...

Jun 11, 2010, 8:49 AM

It is simply to agree/disagree with the poster's opinion?

For example if someone posts "we should be using a 3-3-5 defense" I thumbs down it if I disagree?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well this ought to be fun in the lunge.***

A couple comments

Jun 11, 2010, 9:19 AM

First would it be possible to get information on what the different numbers means. for example if 3 people rate a post down and 7 people rate it up, what is the pulse?

Im assuming to the left where our names are it says votes, thats the number of times that person has voted.

The pulse that is associated with the name on the left is that a running total of all the votes on your posts and is that percent calculated the same as the individual post pulse.

Lastly on the board view, the hall of fame votes no longer show up, it just shows the trophy, I would like to see the total hof votes again

Sure, you have it correct. The pulse rating of a post is thumbs up / total votes. So the higher the number the better. Yes, the pulse rate of a member is calculated the same, total thumbs up / total votes over all your posts.
I took off the HoF votes on the board index simply due to lack of space. It takes 5 votes for the trophy to show up.
I will look at it some more, but I also thought it might be confusing to have 2 numbers there. Thanks for the feedback.

I put the HoF vote count back on the index for those with 5

Jun 11, 2010, 10:45 AM [ in reply to A couple comments ]

or more votes. I also added the total votes your posts have received to the TigerPulse % tooltip.
