The Ballad of Tommy Bowden

Played wide reciever in seventy-three
Up in west virgin’a for his daddy
Taught him all the basics, that was the key
’Cause it was a coach he wanted to be
Tommy, Tommy Bowden, for whom the fans all cheer

Coached with the Devils, Auburn, and some more
Until the Green Wave opened up its doors
He showed Tulane how to run up the score
Then joined Clemson, the rest is Tiger lore
Tommy, Tommy Bowden, happy to have him here

In his first years, a lot of records fell
Touchdown Tigers! all the fans would yell
He’d beat the Cavs, and the Wolfpack as well
But most of all, he’d give the Gamecocks hell
Tommy, Tommy Bowden, Lou wipe away your tear

He’s beaten the best, but he is not done
Tommy’s legacy has only just begun
He want rest ‘til a championship is won
Yes, the years ahead are gonna be fun
Tommy, Tommy Bowden, the name the Coots all fear
