Thursday sermon: Two weeks of ####, a life of glory
Oct 15, 2009, 2:29 PM
|
|
I usually reserve these for Sunday, so forgive me for juping the gun a bit.
But for well-nigh two weeks this team, these coaches, the fan base as a whole, has been going through ####.
And we all deserve it.
We lost to Turtles.
Lost bad. Looked bad.
Let one of the sorriest teams this side of the St. Louis Rams stonewall us.
How's that feel? Pretty dang crappy. Then we had a week to pick at our wounds, rub salt in them and savor the stinging in some perverse fashion ... as if, on some level, we deserved the pain.
Well, we did. We're Tigers. We don't nurse wounds. We inflict them.
Now, look at us. Whining, wimpering weaklings who just had our rear ends handed to us by Turtles. D@amn, stinking, slower than Christmas, salmonella-spreading TURTLES!
And I've had enough of it.
If you love Clemson, if you believe in anything our football stands for ... if you can stand in front of God and man and say without shame or hesitation "I am a Clemson man" you KNOW it is time for redemption.
It is time for blood. It is time to make someone pay. It is time to stand up, wipe off the mud, pull out a tire iron and beat the living crap out of someone.
In a way, this is perfect timing as fans and a family. Nothing is expected of us from the rest of the world. Our fans seem fractured, our freshly minted coach is under the gun, our team's heart has been questioned. The Deacons ... the DEACONS ... are expecting to stroll into Death Valley and walk away with a win.
It is time to rise up and strike. I ... and I hope, you ... refuse to lose to DEACONS.
We've got folks spending their time, energy and imagination about revamping the coaching staff. Changes may be coming, but they won't be here for months. As fans, we have much closer tasks at hand.
If we need this game to get to Tampa, then THAT is what matters. Nothing else. As a team, as a fan base, as a family, we need to put every piece of what we are and ever hope to be into one task: destroying Wake Forest.
The players need rise up and go balls to the wall. The fans need to rise up, turn the Valley back into a furnace of damnation.
We all need to shake off the self-pitying "It ain't like it used to be" crap and MAKE IT what we want it to be.
There are plenty of reasons to stay home Saturday. Noon game, TV, and the ever-present dread of what happens if we lose.
But this isn't the time for self-doubt, micro-examination or sober self-assessment. This is the time to let the spirit of all that Clemson football should be possess us. Scream until the taste of blood mingles with beer. Punch the d@mn Deacons in the mouth until they pray to God for deliverance.
The meek may well inherit the Earth. I don't want meek. I want the riled and rowdy to claim a little corner of it called Death Valley. Dispatch the dulling dread of worry. I don't give a d@mn about what might happen. I want crumpled and broken, dazed bodies being dragged back to the Deacon sidelines.
I want the howls of Wake fans drowned out in the celebration of the sons of Clemson.
I want blood...and I guarantee I'm not alone.
Gideon took 100 men of courage into Midian, and he destroyed every foe. Surely there are 100 left just crazy enough to stand with Clemson.
For those few hours tomorrow, at the game or in the bar or in front of your TV at home, believe. Believe in your heart, and believe with your voice.
Believe that this team has had enough of being dumped on and will rise up with full-throated roar until the battle is won.
Believe, and be rewarded with a taste of Clemson football the way it should be.
Believe that this is not an end, but a beginning.
Believe in redemption.
Believe in Clemson.
Believe.

It's nice to hear something positive. I've come to see that at then end of the day it's just a game, but it's our Tigers. So for Dabo or not, I will be cheering for the Tigers!

The prophet has spoken. As one of the most faithful, I will put down the hammer and saw and cease work on the Ark I have been building this week and take up the six pack and tire iron and make the holy pilgrimage to the sacred valley with only the thought of vengence in my mind. For I believe.

He is the master to whom we can only hope to ascribe.
But if this little rambling foreshadowed a similar outburt of '03, I'd be delighted for us all.

Unfortunately our offensive coaches will have more to do with the outcome than whether I believe or not. Thanks for the effort though.
