Barbecue Time!

Apr 13, 2009, 7:41 AM

Folks,

Please say a quiet prayer for us today. This morning at 11 a.m. we open my new restaurant - Dan Scott's Big League Barbecue.

My wife and I have never attempted anything like this before, so there would be much in the way of anxiety even without a bad economy.

Still, we are optimistic. And we hope that as many of you as can will give us a try.

We're located at 42 South Commerce Street in Liberty. Our hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 11-8 on Friday and Saturday.

Look forward to seeing you there, and wish us luck!

DAN SCOTT

> Vinegar....yum

You can tell you are from Eastern North Carolina. By the way Vinegar is crappy when it comes to barbecue. Just as soon not eat as eat barbecue done with vinegar and pepper.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

One word "Bridges". And it doesn't really matter which one.***

Amen, Mustard based is nasty! Gotta be hot as hell vinegar based.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Lots of other kinds

Apr 13, 2009, 10:54 AM [ in reply to I'm confused, is there any other kind?*** ]

If you need directions to some places to expand your culinary BBQ experience let me know.

My post was meant to set off meters, as those within SC

Apr 13, 2009, 11:55 AM

normally argue that mustard base is the only kind of BBQ. I love vinegar base, especially from Bill Spoons here in Charlotte. And I agree with another post in this thread that ketchup base is only good for ribs and chicken (no coot pun intended).

You ever had BBQ from Bridges in Shelby, NC? Vinegar based

Apr 13, 2009, 1:36 PM

(which i prefer as well). There are 2 Bridges BBqs and both are dang good. I havent had any Charlotte BBQ but guess I need to make the short trip over there sometime and try it out

The best place for BBQ and all the fixins' is Roger's in Florence. You just can't find a better place.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wait, wait, wait. You've been living in Aiken for how long?

Apr 13, 2009, 9:25 AM [ in reply to Mustard based I hope.*** ]

You still think you need mustard to make good bbq? You need to get to Carolina BBQ a little more often tdrake.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

MauldinT, where are you???

Other types are good too.

Apr 13, 2009, 9:53 AM

But mustard is teh awesome.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Or vinegar and pepper. Just not ketchup based. I only like

Apr 13, 2009, 10:34 AM [ in reply to Mustard based I hope.*** ]

ketchup based sauces on ribs. Everything else should be mustard and/or vinegar and pepper. Shealy's in the BL has a mix of vinegar/pepper and mustard based Q. Of course the best in the world is the pulled pork from McCabes in Manning.
