The Clemson family lost another great man......

my Uncle John R. Liles - Clemson class of 1940. WW II veteran and project manager for one of the greatest construction engineering projects of its time - the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. A true Clemson Man and Southern Gentleman, he was what The Greatest Generation was all about. I will miss him dearly. Rest in Peace Uncle.

I just drove that bridge tunnel a couple times last week, and I am thankful the engineering was done correctly!
God bless him.

My family's sincere condolences on your family's loss, Hitman. I wish I had had the pleasure of meeting him. He sure lived one helluva life! Wasn't he also a recipient of the Clemson Medallion? You are blessed with a great Clemson family, and the tradition currently continues. Let's go to a baseball game with your dad this season. Take care, my brother.

It was he and my dad's oldest brother Sherwood that received the Medallion, but he was just as much, if not more, a Clemson man.

From a very young age, I wanted to go through the CBBT.

About five years ago, i started doing some work near Va Beach. After a 40+ year wait, I finally was able to drive over and through. Sympathies for your loss but great to know a Clemson gentleman played a large part.

I know he must have had some interesting stories. I still have yet to make the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel drive. I've done the OBX ferry trips several times.

I always thank them for saving the world.
It's hard to do without tearing up. My dad served on the DE-135 in the Atlantic.
Sorry for your loss.
