It's the off-season so naturally I was bored...........

Jul 1, 2005, 4:17 PM

I was on a #### message board and kept hearing how pathetic our schedule has been over the years because we play in the ACC. I was constantly told by the coot fans there that if they were to play an ACC schedule they would have had the same success as we have. One even said that most Clemson fans agree that USuCk would have done just as good as Clemson. I did way too much research and posted this on the Coot board.......

Much has been made of Clemson’s historically weak schedule and that the ACC is a terrible conference with no good teams and if the mighty ##### were in the ACC they would do as good or better than Clemson. Well, I know many of you don’t like this sort of thing but let’s look at the facts. I know that word (facts) is looked down upon here but I just have to share them with you anyway.

USuCk has played many games vs. the pathetic ACC schools throughout history and if you were to swallow wholesale the bulls**t on this message board regarding the ACC you would assume that mighty USuCk has fared at least as well as Clemson vs the weak ACC opponents. After all that is the biggest excuse #### fans have for the success of Clemson. Right? So let’s take a hard look at what USuCk has done vs the ACC.

Alphabetically Clemson is the first to make in on the list (bad one to start with for a #### fan) USuCk’s famous record vs the Tigers of the ACC is 35-63-4. Ouch not a good start but they will probaly have winning records vs the rest of them.

Next up Duke. OK this one should be the best one for the #####, I mean come on it’s Duke right? Nope, ##### went 17-24-3. Well honestly that’s not that bad, it’s much closer than their record vs. Clemson. Also Duke had some pretty good teams way back before television. The last time the ##### played Duke was in 1991 and it was a tie 24-24. Clemson’s record vs Duke? 32-16-1.

Next up is Florida St. USuCk is on par with Clemson in the all-time series with a 3-15 record for both schools but the last time the ##### beat FSU was 1984 and FSU totaled 7 wins that year. Clemson beat them in ‘89 and 2003 when FSU had 10 wins in each season.

Next up is Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech is probably the only ACC team USuCk has matched up against better than Clemson. The ##### have a 9-12 record vs the Jackets and Clemson has an embarrassing 23-44-2 record vs them. Between the years 1908 and 1973 the Jackets absolutely owned the Tigers going 32-3 vs them in that time period. Every single one of those games was played in Atlanta. But the Tigers have a 20-12 record before 1908 and every year since 1973 when Atlanta was only the setting every other year. Clemson is 9-5 vs the Jackets in games played at Death Valley. During the last 20 years the Tigers have gone 11-9 vs the Jackets. USuCk has not played GT since 1991 where they beat the Jackets in Columbia by a score of 23-14. During the last 20 years they have only met four times and they split the series 2-2. The scores were SCU 0 GT 34, SCU 21 GT 10, SCU 6 GT 27, and the 23-10 game mentioned earlier.

Next up is Maryland. Another ACC team, another winning record over the #####. I see a trend. USuCk is 11-17 vs the turtles in football. The last time the turtles and chickens faced off was in the year 1971 and the chickens creamed the twerps 35-6. Does Clemson have a losing record vs the turtles too? Nope Clemson has a 28-23-2 mark over them.

Next, The battle of the Carolinas. North owns south in this case. UNC holds a 34-16-4 record over the #####. Surprised? I’m not. Clemson’s record vs UNC? 33-18-1.

Next up NC State. Have we made it to a team that SCU actually has a winning record against? Not yet!!!!! NC State has 27-24-4 record over the #####. ##### have played them 4 times since 1989 and has lost them all. Another weak ACC team huh? Clemson’s record vs them? 45-27-1

We finally made it to an ACC team that USuCk has a winning record against!!!!!! UVA!!!!!!! 20-13-1 for the #### boys. UVA has split the series over the last 20 years going 2-2. Clemson’s record vs the Pergolas? 35-8-1

We end the list with Wake Forest. USuCk also enjoys a series lead over the Deacons of 33-21 winning 14 out of the last 15. I think Clemson can do better than that……They can at 54-15-1 taking 46 out of the last 54.

USuCk’s record vs the historically weak ACC total? 168-226-18. (.426) Too bad the ##### are not in the ACC. They would own the ACC!!!!

Maybe head to head isn’t the best way to judge. LOL. Let’s look at bowl records

The mighty USuCk? 3-8

Clemson 14-13

Duke 3-5 (as many wins as the #####)

I’m not even going to bother posting FSU’s bowl record

Georgia Tech 22-11

Maryland 8-10-2

Tarholes 12-13

NC State 11-10-1

UVA 6-9

Wake Forest 4-2 (MORE wins than USuCk and one of them was over USuCk)

Conclusion? If the South Carolina Gamecocks were in the “weak” ACC they would be historically the worst #### team in it.

Ballgame.

The Not-So-Surprising conclusion of the Classic........

Jul 1, 2005, 4:43 PM

THIS IS SOUTH CAROLINA FOOTBALL

Following the 2004 season South Carolina has an all-time winning percentage under .500 (495-512-44), which ranks 90th all-time in D-1A football...only 27 programs have been worse. A few of the notable football programs who have been better than the Gamecocks include such powerhouses as: Duke, Western Michigan, Toledo, Navy, UAB, Central Florida, Ball St., North Texas, Nevada, East Carolina, Houston, Northern Illinois, Utah St., San Jose St., Vanderbilt, Akron, Baylor, UNLV, Kansas, and Rutgers just to name a few. This is Carolina Gamecock football.

In the 60 seasons Carolina has been affiliated with a conference, they have won that conference once...the ACC in 1969, with a 7-4 record. Since the Associated Press began ranking football teams in 1936, the ##### have finished in the Top 20 of the rankings only five times in the 68 years. Carolina has never finished in the Top 10 of a major recognized poll...NEVER. The first year of Gamecock football was in 1892, Carolina won its first bowl game 103 years later under BRAD SCOTT. In 110 seasons of football, Carolina has yet to participate in one of the “Big 5” Bowls (Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, Cotton). Guess what? As Carolina is set to begin its 111th season of collegiate football, they have won 10 or more games in a single season once. In 110 seasons, Carolina has won more games than it lost only 51 times. In 110 seasons, Carolina has won 6 or more games in a season 34 times, and lost 6 or more 35 times. This is Carolina Gamecock football.

South Carolina has had 33 different head coaches in its storied tradition...only six of them stayed longer than 5 seasons, 22 of them have losing records. Add to that the winning tradition the ##### have enjoyed at home in Williams-Brice Stadium. Carolina is 21-37-1 at home in conference since joining the SEC. It’s another Carolina Touchdown!?…not quite. Of the 56 programs, which have played more than 1000 games all-time, only four have scored fewer points than South Carolina in their schools history.

Since joining the SEC in 1992, Carolina has had a winning record in the conference twice. In the eleven seasons as a member of the SEC, Carolina boasts a conference record of 37-66-1…only two teams have been worse: Kentucky has 27 wins, Vanderbilt 12. Although Carolina has yet to finish in the top two of the Eastern division, they have finished last twice. Carolina has yet to win six conference games in a season, something only Kentucky and Vanderbilt have done in the last 12 seasons. And no one should forget the fact that Carolina went two consecutive seasons without winning one conference game, not one. Carolina had an impressive string of 21 consecutive games with a loss snapped in 2000 by beating New Mexico State (then let the rest of the country know what Carolina football was all about by tearing down the goal-posts). Since 1992, only three times has any non-probation member of the conference failed to win two or more games overall in a season…South Carolina has accomplished this feat twice, Kentucky once. Since 1992, only once has a conference member failed to win a game overall in a single season…you guessed it, South Carolina.
South Carolina’s all-time record versus other current conference members is even more impressive: 3-9 vs Alabama, 5-8 vs Arkansas, 1-4-1 vs Auburn, 3-19-3 vs Florida, 13-42-2 vs Georgia, 9-6-1 vs Kentucky, 2-14-1 vs LSU, 5-8 vs Ole Miss, 5-6 vs Mississippi St., 2-19-2 vs Tennessee, and 12-2 vs Vanderbilt. That’s correct, Carolina leads the all-time series against 2 SEC teams...Kentucky and Vanderbilt. This is Carolina Gamecock football.

But, the comparison of only 12 seasons in one conference does no justice to the tradition of South Carolina football. So lets compare the ##### record versus D-1A schools they have played 20 or more times: 36-62-4 vs Clemson, 17-24-3 vs Duke, 3-18-3 vs Florida, 13-42-2 vs Georgia, 9-12 vs Georgia Tech,11-17 vs Maryland, 16-34-4 vs North Carolina, 25-26-4 vs North Carolina State, 2-19-2 vs Tennessee, 21-12-1 vs Virginia, and 34-20-2 vs Wake Forest. That’s correct, Carolina leads the all-time series against 2 of these 11 teams...Virginia and Wake Forest. This is Carolina Gamecock football.

Gamecock fans justify their horrible football record thru the strength of the SEC conference. But let’s look at the Gamecock’s record against the other big 4 conferences. South Carolina is 172-222-18 vs the ACC, 6-8 vs the Big 12, 22-26-5 vs the Big East, and 3-5 vs the Big Ten. This is Carolina Gamecock Football.

But all this tradition and past records are meaningless. What is more important is the recent history. Only losers live in the past. We are in the best years of Carolina Gamecock football, and the future has never been brighter...or has it? Carolina has had 9 losing seasons in the last 13. Since 1990 South Carolina is 75-91-3. Carolina has finished in the Top 15 once in the past 15 seasons, and been to three bowl games in that span. This is Carolina Gamecock football.

2004 was the “The Legend” Lou was going to open up the offense and compete for the SEC title. Yet, “The Legend” retired after ANOTHER Clemson butt woopin and an over all 33-37 (0.471) record. The South Carolina fans dug up another over the hill legend in Steve Spurrier and again are boasting about a recruiting national championship. The visors are being pressed and the 2001 CD's are again making their way toward William Brice. The fires extinguishers are being charged and a quite roar is once again staring to surface, “Wait Till Next year!”
