What is with this trashing of Pitt?

How are we so much better than them? Pitt has had a respectable football program for a long time and has won multiple national championships, and had at least one Heisman winner.
In current times, over the last ten years they have two conference championships to our one. I really don't understand the hate...

We're a southern school. They're not. There is a cultural disconnect, which is what provokes the disdain for Pitt and Syracuse.

LOL. While Pitt is in a large Metro area of Pa., Pa. outside of Pitt and Philly is about as rural as you can get and culturally are like all rural areas. Ever been to Happy Valley? PSU is located in State College,Pa. and is pretty much similar to Clemson, SC. The state of NY. is not comprised entirely of NYC.
Pitt and 'Cuse are weak additions to the ACC. It's just that simple.

I grew up on a farm (and still run it) in rural Bamberg county. What is your point? That you relocated here from up north, attended Clemson, and consider yourself qualified to give an opinion? Please enlighten me with your wisdom, oh wise one.

LOL. Born and reared in SC. I have lived in different parts of the country, both in Metro areas and Rural areas but never "up North".
You made an asinie statement that Clemson fans objected to Pitt and 'Cuse being in the ACC because We're a southern school. They're not. There is a cultural disconnect, which is what provokes the disdain for Pitt and Syracuse. You issued an opinion that branded Southerners as being bigoted against those not from the South because of a "culture disconnect". I pointed out that Pitt and 'Cuse are located in States, especially Pa.,that outside a small number of Metro areas are rural and that those rural folks share pretty much the same culture as those in any other rural area including the South. If one goes to the rural areas of any state and talks to the folks living there, one will see that those folks, even farmers such as yourself share many of the same views and culture. There are Metro areas in the South that are as "Northern" as any Metro area in the North. You made the opposistion to Pitt and 'Cuse a predudicial issue based on a cultural bias geographically. I happen to think we are way past that silliness.
Those opposed to Pitt and 'Cuse being in the ACC may be opposed for many reasons but not for the one you suggest. If that were the case, PSU wouldn't be talked about as being a great addition to the ACC or ND.

I wrote no such thing, look at the thread. English much? I wrote you couldn't compare rural SC to PA and NY and I stand by that.
Sounds to me you need to live up north before you open your trap. BTW, I went to grad school at Cornell for two years so I clearly know more about NY than you. Man, the rest of your rant just reeks of self-righteous horse squeeze. Get over yourself, dude.

My apologies. You did not write the Northern comment, but you did write "I would hardly compare rural PA or NY to rural SC. No, sir, that is truly laughable on many levels." which goes to my contention that I don't think CU fans object to Pitt because it is a Northern school, and I was pointing out that just because it is in Pa., a largely rural state, like SC, except for Pitt,. Philly and Eerie, that the Northern statement was a crock.
And you are still wrong on your statement re. rural areas in other states not having any commonality with SC rural areas.
I would be interested in knowing why you can't compare the culture (which is what I am addressing) in rural SC with that in rural Pa or rural America and why it is laughable on many areas.(I would hardly compare rural PA or NY to rural SC. No, sir, that is truly laughable on many levels.)

Thanks for a return to civility. Apology accepted.
I think rural NY, for example, is far more sophisticated than rural SC. I cannot comment about all parts of PA, but from what I've seen outside of Harrisburg, for example, bears little resemblance to rural SC both in character and racial demographics.

Thanks for the response. Not sure what you mean by character but I will agree that the racial demographics in rural Pa. is different than in rural SC. I still maintain that rural America has way more in common (ideology, religion, family values, sense of patriotism, hunting, sports, caring for others, etc.) than not.

Pennsylvania as "Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with the state of Alabama in between." He was pretty spot on.
My daughter goes to school in a small Pa. town and I have visited often over the past three years. It is extremely rural and culturally in tune with great swaths of SC. Except for the accent, we have a LOT in common with those folks.

You said Columbia sucks as well as Pitt so I was assuming you were referring to the city.
Years ago Pittsburgh was a dying steel town and you could see it all around. What they've done to reinvent and improve themselves over the past 20 some years is pretty remarkable. It really is a beautiful city and a place I think a lot of Tiger fans will enjoy visiting.

Pitt is in the city, right downtown. Obviously playing at Heinze field the stadium is not on campus though. They practice with the Steelers on the south side too, all of which is downtown, just different areas of downtown.

For those who have never been I would also add that Pittsburgh would be a fun road trip for an away game if you don't mind traveling that far. But the game day experience is definitely lacking
