You can't say we're not raising her right........

Dec 21, 2011, 5:28 PM

My second daughter surprised us 3 years ago by coming to us with Down syndrome. Needless to say the last 3 years have been full of ups and downs as we watch her struggle to keep up with kids her age. Yet we know she's wonderously made and wouldn't change her for anything.

She's sitting with me as I write this. I, of course, am wearing a shirt that has a paw on it and she keeps pointing to it. She loves paws and it was actually one of her first words. Speech is going to be her weakest area. There aren't many things we really understand.

The thing I'm most proud of.....every time she she sees a paw, including right now, her right hand makes a fist, goes in the air and she goes into a perfectly counted "C-L-E-M...In cadence..count"!! Complete with an arm swing on the R!!!

Yeah....I can live with that!!

May God be with you and your family.***

She is lucky to have you, and you are lucky to have her. Down children never see bad in anyone. That is one of many reasons they are so special. Merry Christmas to her, and your family. Go C L E M S O N !!!

Although the Lord has blessed me and my beautiful wife with two children in perfect health, I cannot read your post without thinking how your life could be different than my own. I have always had a soft heart and your story is one that I can appreciate, for sure. We all pray that when our children are born they come into the world in perfect health and sound mind. We all have great respect for those who have to encounter your same struggle. Your family is the most important part of your life and you will cherish every memory from their birth until your last breath. Thank the good man up above for allowing us to have children in sickness and in health, and our children are what make our hearts grow fonder. What a great thing to have in life is a child. Best thing on earth. No matter the circumstance. I appreciate your story, I appreciate your struggles. We all have feared what you are strong to write about. However, you and your family know the true meaning about what life is truly about, while others will spend a lifetime trying and still may never learn.

Go Tigers!

what a heart wrenching story. my one and only daughter loved everything clemson at a very early age. you are the 2nd person to post today with a story of a mentally challenged loved one. i share your experience, and feel your point is very relevant and meaningful, especially at this time of year.

As turbulent and hostile as some subjects may get on this website, there's nothing that supersedes the health and well-being of a fellow Tiger. It's great to hear you've got a child who loves and cares about the Clemson Tigers as much, if not more than the rest of us.

If you're ever at a game and she's feeling tired of cheering, remind her there are so many of other Tigers that wish they could be as lucky as she is, going to Death Valley every football Saturday. Happy Holidays to you and yours.

She's lucky to have a family like yours. God Bless!***

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

Very inspirational any time of the year...
