Can some of you please stop calling it the "play-in game?"

Mar 13, 2011, 9:02 PM

We are in the NCAA Tournament. Not the NIT, and not sitting on our butts at home. We deserve to be in, and Tuesday's game counts. When we win, that's an NCAA Tournament win.

It's pathetic to see some Clemson fans discredit our team. A few months ago, most of us didn't even think we would be close to an NCAA Tournament team, much less making it. Heck, I saw a few posts here in December saying we wouldn't even make the NIT. Yet here we are.

How about giving our coaches and players credit for a great season? Be excited. This is an honor, and it's supposed to be fun.

It is a play in game

Then EVERY game is a play-in or play-on game.

Not exactly. In the ACC tournament the first 4 of 12 teams draw a bye. In the NCAA tournament the first 60 of 68 teams draw a bye. Strangest tournament format ever.

So? I don't care how many get a first round bye. It boils

down to the same thing. We didn't play on Thursday in the ACCT. We do play Tuesday in the NCAAT.

Mar 13, 2011, 9:07 PM

It is one of the games you have to win to make it to the field of 64. Frankly, I'm more upset that we have to be in one of these games. I thought we would be a 10 or 11 seed.

I am very proud of what Coach Brownell, his staff and the players have done. I didn't expect us to be in this kind of position at the beginning of the year, but they team kept improving and the coaches have done a super job. We just need to keep playing as well as we have been and the team will be ok. This has been a super year for Clemson Basketball.

I'm glad we're playing in for a 12 seed instead of a 16 seed. But this is a stupid tournament set up. We are officially playing in the 1st round. There are 68 teams in the tournament, and 60 of the teams draw a first round bye. Only the NCAA could come up with a format like that.

It's not round one. If we win two games, we're not in the sweet 16, we're in round 2. Round one is the winner of our game vs. WVU.

This is a play in game, for a 12 seed.

Is it really that important to call out our players for calling this game what it is? Stitt is putting in the hours every day and you call him out for calling it a play-in game? I think you are grossly misinterpreting him if you think his assessment of the snub discredits the team. By calling it a play-in game, he is saying the team deserves better. But whatever, keep throwing our players under the bus like always.
