My youngest just received his acceptance letter to Clemson's School of Engineering. Along with a sizeable scholarship. Clemson gets an outstanding pickup for next fall! Merry Christmas to him!

I went the computer/electrical route myself. Now I'm mostly just a glorified typist (programmer).

Congrats!
I'm a Clemson Engineer...the training served me well.
Clemson is really hard to get into these days, you have to be in the top 10% of your HS class. That is not bad if you live in a rural county, but in suburbaN ATL, where everyone is a high achiever, this is a ridiculously high standard and they are missing out on some great students. For instance, my daughter has a 4.2 gpa with rigorous AP and college level classes, but she won't qualify for Clemson unless she gets a near perfect score on SAT, because she's outside the top 10%. She bled orange all her life, but is now looking at bama. That sux....change the standards!
Rant over...

Hard science for me - Chemistry. Didn’t take any of those pipe fitting courses they had over at Earl.

Yeah it's really tough to get into Clemson, much more so than when we were coming along. My daughter graduated 3 years ago and I think the SAT average when she entered was in the 1400 range.

1 year at local community college

and then transfer in as a sophomore. Calculus is calculus. Chemistry is chemistry. English is English. Small class size and teachers that want to teach make it better for the student. Easier to learn the material and easier to get all A's. Plus saves you a lot of money.

Back when I was a ChE in Earle Hall in the early to mid 90’s, students a few years prior snuck up to the building in the middle of the night and rearranged the letters to spell “A REAL HELL”. I’m guessing that pic still resides in the entry somewhere.

Our third is there now, a freshman. His brother graduates in May and was a bridge student. It is cheaper, no stigma and the same degree. The housing for next year will be the best on campus.

I did two years at Greenville tech then a little over two years at Clemson. Construction Science. Saved about 30 grand that way.

I ALMOST didn’t read, thinking this was a(nother) recruiting post!
CONGRATS to your son!
BSEE ‘81 - AFROTC commission from Det 770, here!
I also take credit for pioneering the Bridge Program. Did a year at Greenville Tech, then looked at potential salaries with an Associate Degree in EET, so made the transfer to Clemson. SMARTEST thing I EVER did!
AIM HIGH!!!

UB, we probably know many of the same folks. My dad took over Det 770 in summer '81. My future wife and I were in AFROTC, graduated in '85. I just retired from the AF after 29 years in 2014. Three of the best decisions I ever made...Clemson, AF, marrying that girl!

I just gave you your first point in this thread, and it's a party as I see it, if you agree or like what is being said, you point the post. For myself, I don't point just bc someone come in just for the point, empty post receive Zero point from me, just saying each to their own!!!
