A newcomer's guide to posting on Tigernet

For many years members have followed the unwritten rules and regulations regarding posting on Tigernet. Most would never need an actual beginner’s walkthrough to follow because their experience precedes them; however, there are many newcomers that need to understand the process.

We will start on the homepage. The front page can be a lovely place to gather with your family for times of love and fellowship, but more importantly it is a place to discover useful knowledge about Clemson sports.

Before posting messages that inquire about home team rosters, scheduling, time of games, or TV appearances, please look through the various links and wonderful teaching tools located throughout the Tigernet landscape. You can find many of the answers to your questions before ever posting such foolish thoughts.

Reading for days at a time on the homepage can be fun, but other things might catch your eye such as the Tiger board, Donor board, and Tiger Source boards, with their ever changing topics. You might even click on a few of the threads and read a couple. By now, you should be well polished on your knowledge from reading off the homepage and might even find some of these threads silly or ignorant. Not to fear my eager one, be patient. Don’t jump into discussions too soon. Even if you tired you would have to sign up first.

You will need to register to acquire a name. One should be very cautious of the creation of such an important handle. Be creative and experiment with names on paper until you find the perfect name that fits you. Be forever warned that adding a “Clemson” or a “Tiger” in the name does not mean that you will not be labeled a “coot in disguise.” A proper name should easily be determined after only a few days of hard work.

After you receive confirmation of your new name login in and look immediately to the Tigernet Dictionary found at: http://www.thetigernet.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=212077#212077. One should read, learn, and acquire the knowledge this helpful guide will show you. After a great understanding of this you may begin making posts gradually. One should also acquire an “®” after receiving confirmation. This will allow you greater privileges and give you more power over other non-® posters.

Before posting, one should understand the rules of posting. Don’t use any profanity. Profanity would include such as words like ####, ####, #####, ####, ###, #####, happy####, ###i##y, ###y###r, ####su##ing######, f###adiddypop, my###is###on#######, ####, #, and don’t forget everyone’s favorite ####################s. These words are not appropriate at anytime. Other rules include the posting of commercial advertising, no direct attacks on an individual(s) for the sole purpose of flaming, and no continuous abusive or disruptive behavior. These rules are very self-explanatory and being knowledgeable of the rules will help you to make good posts and help us oust Johnnycoot4brains after he breaks the rules.

Other rules not followed as often are the rules of grammar. Yes, this is the internet and not a highly important area to make every post perfect, however, it is imperative that every post you make be absolutely mistake free, any mistake will take away your credibility, one mispeled wrod can make you look like a fool, a run on sentence with too many commas, not using the correct form of you’re “to’s,” knowing how to spell loose when you don’t win. We have to keep you honest and every mistake will be publicly known by Tigernet’s members because of the red pen of doom.

Now when making posts you will want to start by making posts that people will not notice to get your feet wet, an “LOL” response to a funny post here and there, or an “I agree” to a post that you agreed with, or maybe even a “done” after a prayer request. Don’t jump into an argument with Coot4life because you think you’ll have other tiger friends to “get your back.” You will soon learn that not all Coots are bad and that some can even be almost called “good coots.”

Now that you have gotten your feet wet on the boards you will notice the LBODs and might even want to post an LBOD. For this you should refer to the HTML Tutorial found at: http://www.thetigernet.com/tigerboard/tutorial.html . This will give you all the instruction you need to making fine posts and correctly show you how to post an LBOD without revealing that little red X. Nobody likes those and often the jokes following them are bad.

There are many other little rules and tips that you will pick up on the way but always remember that players and recruits read every single word you write on this board and even the President stops by the lounge now and then to see how things are doing. So make your posts carefully and you should be on your way to a fine career of posting on Tigernet.
