Recruiting Like It or Not

Aug 10, 2006, 7:07 PM

Just learned that a 4 star player could become a new Tiger commit , sooner than expected! 4 Star WR Jay Smith is a top 10 position player nationally, and is so high on Clemson , some of the staff are expecting a commit from him soon. This would be great news for the Tigers, who would close the board down at WR after a oversign from 3 Star ATH/WR Markish Jones(Clemson over FSU). ;) Also, 4 Star RB Ryan Houston a NC commit, might not be as high on the Tarheels as once thought, Clemson can still pull him in on his official visit next month. 4 Star DB Chris Culliver is gaining alot of offers, but we still expect him to sign with Clemson. The top TE prospect on the board is 5 Star TE Rob Gronkowski and Clemson is in his top three, expect an all out campaign to get him in Tiger Town for a big game this season! 4 Star DE Tony Tucker, a Top 10 national position player, is expecting to make Clemson one of his top 5 schools over the next week and he will visit Tiger Town this fall! Also waiting on 4 Star OL Chris Little! Come on, Chris!
With football season around the corner, only a few unofficial visits are left, but with more official visits to come , Clemson Football season looks brighter than ever! GO TIGERS! :)

before he commits?

Appreciate the detailed updates psyco....

I have no idea how solid your sources are or where you get your information, but I know one thing - I look forward to your recruiting updates on T-Net.

Bottom line is that signing day is months away with a full season to play between now & then, but I know that Tommy & crew have consitently improved our recruiting hauls so that we now talk about 4 & 5 star guys rather than 2's & 3's.

Thanks Psyco!

From a fan of a team whose very existence is based on over-exaggerated optimism and grandiose delusions. Oh the irony !!!!!

Jay Smith will not commit to anyone until late October. He will likely visit Clemson officially for the Ga Tech game which is great news considering we seemed to be on the outside looking in just a couple weeks ago. Also, Va Tech is still his likely destination, but a good season by Clemson will go along way. He's a big, talented receiver from a Christian background. With the troubles at VPI over the past few seasons and Bowden's faith, this could go along way with the folks, both of who will trip with him to the Valley.

Markish Jones is the likely final WR that Clemson takes this year, which is fine. He's got speed to burn and good size. In fact, he could be the fastest prospect in the state of South Carolina. When you put on a great performance at both Clemson's and FSU's camps and get offers from both, you are talented. FSU doesn't have to leave the state to find fast athletes, so an offer from them is impressive. He's Clemson's to lose and will likely commit in the next couple months. Another deep threat to a talented receiving corp.

Ryan Houston is definitely not firm to UNC as determined by continued contact between he and other staffs. He is also initiating the contact many times. I would consider him a soft commitment to the Heels. If UNC has another poor season, he can be flipped. The problem still remains with our depth chart and the fact that Jo Jo Cox is still in the fold. He likes Clemson alot, but likes UNC more at the moment. Like said before, the season holds the key. A Clemson beatdown of UNC in September would also help because he will likely be in town for the game.

Chris Culliver is anything but expected to sign with Clemson. He is wide open between Clemson, Florida, NC State, and Va Tech. Clemson is in great shape, but his decision won't come until January after some visits. Va Tech has a commitment from his teammate and close friend, so that is an ace of their sleeve. However, he is friends with Marcus Gilchrist too. Point for Clemson. By the way, has it been mentioned that Gilchrist also recruits for Clemson. He is still working Culliver and Travian Robertson. He's also made contact with Houston and Tydreke Powell on the Tigers' behalf. He's the North Carolina version of Willy Korn.

Tony Tucker has some odd schools as his favorites. First off, Ga Tech likely leads for him at the moment. Clemson is also in the top 3, maybe top 2 and should get him on campus for a game and official. Good shot here to land a 4-star DE, but Tennessee still looms on his list too. The Vols are pretty strong in the Virginia and DC areas. With Matthews likely heading to Cootville and Robertson committed at the moment, he looks to be the highest ranking DE left available on our board.

UNC and Clemson lead for Gronkowski, but like Culliver, he won't decide until after his visits. The wildcard is still Maryland since two of his brothers already play for the Fridge. It's tough to beat if the big bros start leaning on him like the Fridge will likely want them to do. A good season by Clemson and their TE's would go along way, but he does like us alot. He and his entire family will be in Clemson for the Maryland game in November. Good chance to impress all of them, even the ones suiting up for the Terps.

Chris Little just needs to go public. Clemson has already told other OT's that we are done recruiting OL this year. Read between the lines here. It's also probably the worst kept secret this summer. Antwan Greenlee committing to the Dawgs also helps us here. UGA was the team I was most worried about since they don't lose many instate kids when they really want them.

This class should end up stronger than the previous 3 classes, all of which were outstanding. Again, the staff is filling needs across the board with excellent kids. If the team follows through with a great season, a top 10 class is not out of the realm of possibility. Also, don't sleep on Travian Robertson. Clemson is still in the mix and he is far from signed, sealed, and delivered to Cootland. Also, Drew Traylor and Rennie Moore are very good players at DE. The UGA site admin, Chad Simmons, said had Moore not been hurt last season and if he can bounce back this year, he is likely a top 20 player in the state of Georgia. Also, Traylor got an offer in the spring, which doesn't happen to fallback prospects (like alot of Coot fans believe he is). Many forget he also had an offer to Coot U and they were still actively recruiting him after Robertson committed and with Matthews nearly committed.

“The best moment was on draft day when (N.C. State’s Mario Williams, Manny Lawson and John McCargo) all got picked in the first round,” said Dustin Fry. “That was kind of nice knowing we ran for 254 yards against three first-round defensive linemen.”

Full of good information. Nice read.***
