For all Tiger fans...

Apr 17, 2005, 3:48 PM

A little piece of writing that anyone who has been or knows what it means to be a Tiger...sorry the grammar/spacing is bad

You See…

Its strange because you spend years dreaming when you're a kid about going there, and then the rest of your life about the time when you were. But when you are there, it's different; it's a relationship. The everyday moments can make it so easy to let your time just pass by, but the point is somewhere in there, you fall in love with it. Maybe you didn't mean to, maybe you didn't want to, maybe you always were, it doesn't matter because at some point you do and if you haven't yet, you will.

it's the way the those fountains sound at night-
when you stand with your back to the world
and everything is more perfect in the dark,
the extended second before the water lands making the reflection pond not a reflection pond
the way the moonlight just waits in the amphitheater
and the way everyone skips a few breaths on a clear day when the sun sets
and how no matter what-
you want to run to the fourth floor, that's really the ninth floor of Johnstone-
it's the smell of those stairs when you do, and how
every time you get up there, you think about the irony of those colors behind that stadium
and how you’ve learned that the word "irony" doesn't work
but just seems right and
how those colors just can't be a coincidence, and maybe everything else isn't either.
it's where the grass really is greener-
and the most brilliant, tenured professors are the one's who laugh the loudest in passing,
and somehow always say hello before you do-
how everyone doesn't always have time to stop,
but always to speak-
the way standing on Bowman field doesn't make you want to learn anything else
especially with your shoes off-
and how you pretend that standing beneath the Tillman bell tower
doesn't either-
how the only thing to really complain about is the parking
and how sometimes it's just nice to complain-
how an entire stadium (except for a very small section) can feel the same thing at the same time
and how there always is so much to feel-
and the way it must. to run down that hill-
and the way you know, it does, for them-
the way that it's o.k. to curse on Saturdays after halftime
and as long as everyone else is looking up, to cry when you see those balloons in the sky
-the way that girls can look that good in orange,
how fried chicken and overalls can be sexy in the morning-
how you felt walking on a cold night between the student union and library, under those trees- and how to them you were no different than the leaves that blow across your feet, just like the ones that would be back next year.
It's what we all have in common- the way everybody else doesn't understand. The way it makes, even us, somehow all the same. It's what makes us tigers.

What is/was yall's favorite spot on campus?

1 of mine has to be a little narrow cut as you're heading down the steep hill on Williamson Rd. right before you get to R2 and C3, C4.

I love it all but Death Valley is my favorite spot
