AASCU Takes Note of Clemson's High Graduation Rates

AASCU TAKES NOTE OF CLEMSON'S HIGH GRADUATION, RETENTION RATES

CLEMSON - Clemson University's high student retention rates and graduation rates have captured the attention of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) - so much so that Clemson will be part of The Graduation Rates Outcome Study March 7-9. The study is designed to review factors that contribute to success at top colleges and universities.

Of the freshmen who entered Clemson in 1998, 72.4 percent graduated within six years. Of the first-time freshmen in 2003, 88 percent returned the second year.

"These percentages are at or above the national average," said Catherine Watt, director of institutional research and planning at Clemson. "The national average six-year graduation rate is 60 percent; and top colleges and universities around the country have retention rates at or above 90 percent."

Steps have been taken at Clemson to directly impact retention and graduation rates. They include establishing the Academic Support Center, increasing academic advisers in the colleges and hiring faculty to teach and maintain the general engineering department.

The Graduation Rates Outcome Study is a national partnership among the AASCU, The Education Trust and the National Association of System Heads.

Nice. The Academic Support Center has been going a great job, its about time they get some praise. I can't count the number of times the free tutoring and other programs(SI and PASS) helped me out.
