What is the likelihood of the ACC staying intact? Is there nothing they can do?

I get why we and FSU are looking to leave. It's all about money. Makes the world go 'round.

But I'd kinda hate to just abandon the conference we've been a part of for so long. Lots of great history there and the conference has fielded some great teams and players in past years.

Is there nothing the ACC can do to improve the situation of the conference and try to keep us and FSU in the fold? You'd think they'd be looking to renegotiate contracts and such which would probably be cheaper than these two pending court cases. Are the current contracts pretty much done deals? Or is it simply that the ACC, now with fewer teams, just can't compete financially with the SEC and B1G?

All the talk has been about FSU and Clemson, and maybe some others, leaving the conference. But is there nothing the conference can do short of "don't leave or we'll sue!"?

Clemson does not win 2 recent natties if in the SEC....does not happen..we won with great teams but we play 100+ players in many of those games...2 & 3 stringers got game experience and became very productive ...if we had not rested starters and had backups with game experience galore because we had ACC opponents we don't win...injuries and other issues would have mounted up...we were the best of the ACC and we would have been just another good team in the SEC...makes all the difference...with the new playoff format we are almost assured of trip to prom every year and we can make the conference get better...we are going to leave that to UNC, Nancy St. and Miami...Rad is right!

touchdown in the 2nd Q instead of a FG, we wouldn’t have lost the game.

We were in the ACC when we won and it went down how it went down. If we had been in SEC or BIG you have no idea what other variables would have been different from that point.

What I do know is that we won 2 of those Nattys and I don’t care about the what ifs.

O2BNClemson - on one hand; I agree. All of the games; I could just hop in the car and drive to would be gone. Possibly some decent rivalries and regional bragging rights - also gone.

On the other hand though; the Greensboro Tobacco Road folks have a North Carolina based agenda it seems to me(through the years).

Clemson in the long run will be better off outside of the ACC. But, again, I do get what you mean regarding getting used to the new norm that's coming.

One options is to dissolve the ACC and form a new one. Once thats done we need new leadership leading the conference. We will need a tv partner like NBC, CBS, Fox or YouTube. I like the ACC and wish our leadership was more aggressive like the SEC.

Explain to me how they're supposed to be more aggressive? The SEC added taxes in Oklahoma. The Big Ten added Southern Cal and ucla. The problem is none of those for schools were ever going to come to the acc. I mean, short of holding them at gunpoint I don't know what you expected the ACC to do.

I've been beating this drum myself and that would be my preference. A 10 team conference of FSU, Clem, GT, UM, UNC, NCSU, UVA, VT, UL, Pitt would be a good start until the Big12 GoRs expire and then grab Cinci and WVU for 12. Duke, SU, BC, UConn come in at half shares, if not then we are content at 12. Wake and ND are partial members and need to negotiate their own football contracts.

Phase 1 alignment:
FSU - UM
UNC - UVA
Clem- VT
GT - Pitt
NCSU- UL

Phase 2 alignment:
FSU - UM
UNC - UVA
Clem- VT
GT - Pitt
NCSU- WVU
UL - Cinci

Phase 3 alignment (pods):
FSU, UM, Clem, GT
UNC, NCSU, UVA, Duke
VT, UL, Cinci, WVU
Pitt, SU, BC, UConn

Annual cross overs: FSU-SU, Clem-UNC, GT-Duke, Pitt-WVU, UM-BC, Cinci-UConn, UL-NCSU, VT-UVA

There's probably a decent chance that the ACC stays intact for two reasons. One, because these lawsuits are probably not going to work, and it's probably going to be too expensive for anybody to leave. The second issue is, it's very questionable as to whether the SEC or the Big Ten want to take any of these teams in the first place.

As far as the contract, The only way to really renegotiate it is to add new teams so it can be reopened. The problem is there aren't really any teams out there that add any value when you do renegotiate the contract. There actually was a renegotiation when these new teams got added, however they didn't bring enough value to increase the contract. That's why Stanford and California came for next to nothing and why smu's not getting paid at all for about five or six years.

It's kind of actually ridiculous to suggest that the ACC she just give up and dissolve. I mean that's kind of foolish even think that. The reality is that MAYBE two or three schools have a landing spot in one of the big two conferences. The rest of the schools are going to end up in some second-rate ACC Big 12 merger.

What's your really saying is, "I want Clemson to get out of the ACC so they don't get left behind by the SEC at Big Ten schools, so I'm trying ti construct a scensrio that the ACC is going to somehow just let Clemson out." That's just not realistic.

It is irrelevant whether they stay intact or not. If they do, they will be irrelevant - unless you think conferences the the Big East, or maybe something akin to the old Metro Conference, are relevant.

When it comes to elite college level football, the ACC will either cease to exist or drop to the level of C-USA.
