I don't watch NFL or do fantasy fb, so I obsess over roster moves. But can anyone explain the logic behind this process to me? Cut them, but then resign then in a few days? Is it just a way to force contract changes or something?

It does not cut their salary but means the money is not guaranteed per the article

49ers probably have a few players who need to go on the PUP list and miss the first 4 games. I think they must be included on the 53-man roster before being put on the list.
