So vaccinated people can get Covid? No way

that makes no sense at all.
Get boosted and mask up people.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/us-cdc-says-ba-2-153818874.htmlUS CDC says new COVID lineage could cause infections in vaccinated individuals CDC said it was too soon to know whether this might cause more severe illness compared with previous variants. But due to the high number of mutations detected in this lineage, there were concerns about its impact on immunity from vaccines and previous infections, the agency said. Scientists are keeping an eye on the BA.2.86 lineage because it has 36 mutations that distinguish it from the currently-dominant XBB.1.5 variant.

Vaccinated people could always get COVID. That's always been known. They just have less chance of dying or having extreme symptoms. You're just learning that vaccinated people can get COVID? Wow

Well, I have known it for numerous years, because Sanje Gupta said we could get it. I was vaccinated and got it, as have many of my friends and family. No need to lie for me. I am not as clueless as you are.

to protect grandma. If you didn’t get vaccinated, you were irresponsible and blood ok your hands if a family member dies.

That was ridiculous. A lot of it was ridiculous. They should have just said that Gma should be vaccinated and left it there.

My dad had a transplant. He is on immuno suppressants. His doctors told him he would die if he got covid without being vaccinated. He never got vaxed, had Covid twice, and did just fine. Few of his vaxed friends that were not immunosuppressed kicked the bucket with Covid.

With your dads history I would say he made a very wise decision to avoid the shot.

My favorite is still the time I was called “incubator of death” because I remained unvaccinated. Sounds like a super hero name!! Love it.

That's not news, and nobody I trust for medical advice ever told me any different. I was told from the start that I could still get the virus if I got the shot.

Here's a picture that may help illustrate things

The CDC risk assessment that was done (something they haven't done for anything since 2020), only indicates the level of immunity from vaccines and/or prior infection, will be greatly diminished against the new variant (BA.2.86). They're also still holding onto that massive 1-3% drop in transmission in vaccinated people, but whatever. It used to be like 30%, and it's dwindled to essentially zilch.
But that's not the point. Below is a chart of the key genes in three variants. XBB.1.5 (which has run through the US for 6+ months now), EG.5.1, a new variant contributing to the current increase in cases and hospitalizations in much of the US, and BA.2.86. Now note the colors in the squares. XBB.1.5 and EG.5.1 have MOSTLY the same boxes filled, or empty. Compare those two to the new variant. There are many added genes, and deletions making the new variant VERY DIFFERENT from what's been going around for 1.5+ years now. The updated vaccines, btw, are based on XBB.1.5. So yeah, the benefit will be minimal IF this new variant transmits well, which is what the CDC is admitting without admitting that. This will also apply to natural immunity as well. If you had XBB.1.5, well, your natural immunity will be limited as well.
There are 2 boxes that differ between XBB.1.5 and EG.5.1. There are about 34-35 that differ between BA.2.86 and the other two.

Now you won't see any of this stuff from the CDC. This is the stuff that should be done that western scientists never do. Or should I say, they may do it but never publish it.

Good news, it transmits much slower than other omicron variants. More like earlier variants Delta, Alpha, etc. Bad news, it's on an antigenic island, meaning there are no vaccines, or prior infections, or monoclonal antibodies that provide any significant immunity to this variant.
There are now four variants (ever) that popped up and spread with zero or very little immunity. Wuhan covid, BA.1/2 omicron (original), original XBB, and now this BA.2.86. EVERYTHING else that has ever circulated had some prior variant, or vaccine, that created some immunity.
Now this could end up being a lot like Delta, and other earlier variants. Delta was first spotted in the US in March of 2021, before it exploded in India in April and May of 2021. It never exploded in the US until August and September of 2021. So although it may be slow to spread, with no immunity in the population it can build up to a wave over time, possibly months. We just have to wait and see. But being spotted in 13 countries, while at VERY low levels, does indicate community transmission is happening, so we'll just have to wait and see.
