portal question??

Nov 7, 2023, 10:49 AM

Why do so many bring up Dabo's view on the portal. He has never said he won't use it. If I'm not mistaken teams aren't allowed more scholarships since the portal started.
We are allowed to recruit every year and as Swinney has asked "Who are we gonna get from the portal presently ?? " We haven't needed to use the portal like some other teams.

The thing true Clemson fans know about Swinney is when a decision needs to be made he will make it.
My question about the portal is " Has the portal affected the quality of player Clemson recruits??? "

He says he will use it but hasn’t to any substantive degree.

The scholarships argument is ignorant when we took 26 high school recruits last season and lost 12 players to the portal.

Has the portal affected the quality of recruit? No. But it has affected depth and healthy competition. You can’t lose 23 players over 2 years that have been through your system for years combined and replace them with green recruits and it not affect depth and the iron that sharpens the iron.

This isn’t opinion. It isn’t conjecture. It isn’t theory. It isn’t guessing. It’s plain fact that losing veteran players every year and not replacing them with veteran players decreases the age, experience and development of your roster. Period.

Bout as well put as you can perfect post!! We don’t need to be a Colorado or FSU and build team around transfers but we can bring in one or two like uga and Alabama does and it doesn’t seem to hurt their recruiting. Go Tigers!!!!

Thanks.
I asked a guy over 80 yrs old wearing Clemson gear in the Parking lot at a Costco.
What he thought about DJU? He said "I support the team and leave things like that to the coaches."

I learned something from that old guy.

Go Tigers!!!

And I might add ...

Nov 7, 2023, 1:14 PM [ in reply to Re: portal question?? ]

that the idea that portal players might not be "cultural fits" also rings hollow. Always has to me.
As if Clemson's football program is a delicate little flower where only choir boys can fit in.

Why not come at it from the other, maybe healthier perspective, of saying there are some good players out there who, for any number of reasons, found the choice they made as HS seniors hasn't worked out and now are hoping to contribute to another program?

Why does it always have to be a glass half-empty scenario? It can be a great opportunity to open doors for good kids who just want a chance to see the field.

Seems like with 11 players out against Notre Dame some of your comments are looking thin? Did you even think we had a chance against the Domers?

Defense played well against a ND team that lost their only receiving weapon for the season. ND has zero passing game now and it showed. The defense is certainly talented but defense isn’t the issue.

The offense is still flat out terrible and luggish. Did you watch the game? The positions on offense where we’ve lost the most to the portal (QB and WR) shows a lack of development and healthy competition. That has been the case for 3 years.

Winning a game against a team that had no offensive pulse while scoring only 24 on offense (3 of which came after a muffed punt return) isn't some “gotcha”

wow you have nothing to add just criticize and belittle. I watched the game and I saw improvement and belief in each other.
It's a team sport. Since you are so insightful, maybe you should apply for the job.. lol how many games will the Tigers win this year?

I'm gonna say it right now 9-4

Go Tigers

What did I say that is inaccurate?

Or are you one of those that just can’t stand to hear anyone say anything remotely negative about the team no matter the reality? The offense just flat out stinks and has for 3 years. That’s reality bud. You don’t have to like it.

Another fact. Many in the “use the portal more so we have more experienced players” crowd are also posting “play the young players more”.

That’s an assumption. And even it’s true it’s not some contradiction. If we’re better off using raw talent over undeveloped experienced players that’s just more evidence of the problem.
