Invitational. You can call it "The Tiger Woods Effect", or now, the "ARABS PLUS Tiger Woods Effect", but these kinds of purses were unheard of years ago. I remember back when Jack Nicklaus won $200,000 in one of the early Thanksgiving "Skins Games", he said that was the single LARGEST check he ever personally cashed from playing golf. Nicklaus in his prime would be making a Gazillion Dollars a year now out on Tour.

After 10% for caddie fee and assumed (10K) for expenses and then 30% for tax man, probably 65-70K takehome...

After winning the British Open in 1946 Sam Snead did not return to defend the title the next year. He said the cost of trans Atlantic travel was more than his winning check.
