I could understand when KJ did this for us. He was not starting and had some guys in front of him.

Trying to figure the logic of a starter who, while not great, guided his team to 3 wins in 4 games.

he may have been told a new OC or QB coach was coming in and wants more time with the new person

he may just like NC State and want to stay there 9 years

he may be lying about not transferring

Wondered about the injury angle. His dad and Doeren were both tight lipped in their comments.

He probably be a pro player so why not get three years of sweet NIL money instead of the two he would get if he played this season. He probably wanted Brennan Armstrongs deal (whatever that is) but when he was told they couldn't afford two QBs he decided to sit and wait. Basically he didn't want to start for free while his backup got paid big bucks. That's my best guess if he isn't leaving.
