Common opponent stats CU/Bama

I tried posting this the other day, but not getting it to display decently. This one is better and you can glean some decent information out of it.
Last night Clemson got some pretty good respect as they paired Clemson and Bama as being separated from the rest.

Two schools of thought on this poast . One , it just doesn't matter about commonality . Different circumstances , different QBs ... different a lot of things . Two , clearly Alabama and Clemson are the two best teams in 2018 ... and until we face each other on the field all of those comparisons and elbowing for attention by the media types is just unimportant flash .

Then there's school of thought #3:
If we calculate the number of yards and points we gave up when we were playing to just barely win, divide that by the number of plays we had our 3rd string in, take the avg gain given up, add the difference between our QB rushing yards and non-QB rushing yards since that game, multiply by a factor of 1.5 for any SEC foe because it looks better that way, add .1 for each additional start Trevor has made and .25 for every defensive starter Bama has lost, we can safely say we have as accurate a comparison of Tide/Tigers it is possible to make without actually playing each other.
Or SoT #4: just speculate! Admit it, have fun and move on.

You are right. We should compare Bama vs. Ole Miss and Clemson vs. NCSU as those opponents share one of the same colors!

Another good stat to look at would be how many players played in each game. For instance against Louisville Clemson Played 94 players. How many did Bama play against Louisville. My bet is they only played half as many. Both were blowouts but Clemson was able to contain Louisville even when the players moms were on the field. Bama probably only played 1st, 2nd, and some 3rd string players. That makes a difference in stats as well. I've actually heard some say well Bama held back so the would run up the score. What do they think Clemson did? That's mentality of Bama fans. Ready to Whip BC then move on toward the showdown with Bama to quiet those people down for a day or so. Go Tigers.

Agree - we can find number of Tigers that played, but I cannot find it for Bama (I looked for quite a while earlier in the week). If you can find it post the link and I will dig through and pull the numbers.

That is a moot stat. Bama played UL in the season opener, I doubt Saban was interested in getting backup players pt. You want your starters to gel for as long as they can in the first game, unless you're playing a super cupcake team.
