Coaching strategy change?

I'm not a big follower of basketball, so apologies if this is Germans

Seems like Brad & Co came up with this new defensive strategy after the ACC tournament. Have we had these strategies previously this year?

Everything I've been hearing and reading from non-Clemson media is talking about how the defensive strategy is suffocating the other teams and opening up the offensive court for our guys to make the plays.

I'm 54 and have been following Clemson basketball for decades, and we've always been more of a defensive, low-scoring kind of team, but now it seems like they've figured out a way to have a strong defense and then get the scoring in. My completely un-educated guess is that since we don't have one "big man" in the middle, and the big guys we do have can shoot really well from outside, we're stretching the opponent's defense too thin and they don't know how to cover. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think we have any starter that can't hit the 3s with some consistency. And seems like all of our guys are really good from the line this year, which helps, too.

Just curious what those who've been following it more closely than me think.

I did see a comment on the zone we played in the 2nd half. They said Arizona had struggled at times against the zone which was seen by our staff. They were very complimentary of our staff.

For the rest of your question I am not the guy to answer. I will say it seems like we are simply playing well with great energy, passion, confidence and purpose which has not been the case all season

I don’t think the defensive strategy has changed. I just think the players are playing like it’s tournament time and they are leaving it all on the court. Defense, especially man-to-man defense, is probably 30% strategy and 70% hustle. One place that it is showing is with Girard. I think Girard was putting more energy on the offensive end getting open for shots and scoring earlier and now he is just playing his tail off on defense and it is taking a little away from his offensive output. But I’ll take that trade, especially with Chase picking it up on the offensive end.

And you are correct, this team hits its free throws. Just a few years ago that was an Achilles heel for us and now we are top ten in the country. That comes from practice and focus.

Simply put...Chase Hunter. In the Tourney it's all about guard play. Look at all the teams that have won. Their guards are playing at a high level. Chase Hunter is playing the best basketball of his career the last 3 games.
Breaking down further, our bench players have been huge and have risen to the occasion when they are called upon.
In the past this team has sat back and waited on Hall to make a play. Then they feed off of him. It appears they are realizing they don't have to wait on him to spark the team. Especially with most teams doubling him. They are making the other teams pay for overplaying PJ.
