Do you send the kids non stop in a rec league knowing the chances of a kid hitting an infield home run are high due to the fact the young kids can hardly catch....or do you show some class and hold your runners once the other team gets the ball into the infield and under control?

The rule is that if the pitcher doesn't have the ball on the mound runners can still advance. But kids often overthrow the pitcher or the pitcher doesn't catch it and has to chase it off the mound.

We like to have some class and hold our runners within reason but tonight this other team was just flat out sending kids running up the score. So we decided to play that game back. When it was all said and done we won and the other coach was so angry he blew a gasket at the umpire and told his kids to call us cheaters.

We just said hey don't do it if you don't want it done to you. Sad thing is those poor kids are 7 and 8 and wont remember anything about the game other than they lost and their coach erupted in a fit of rage.

What's everyone's opinion on this? Remember this is rec league not travel or all star.

Folks that get upset about the outcome of a 8u rec league baseball/softball game shouldn't be coaching.

I'm competitive, but you've got to temper at that age.

I think class is more important. Especially in today's society. Etiquette is at a premium and however an adult can help instill this in our children at any juncture should be the priority. However..........

I believe your reaction was appropriate. When in Rome, so to speak. Sounds like the guy had it coming. Hate it for the kids, but the parents are just as bad most of them. Believe me, been there, lost my #### and bought the T-shirt.

I send em until the lead is comfortable, then hold em.

Had a coach that stacked his team back when my son was that age. He would send em every chance he got. Always thought it was not within the spirit of the game for that age group.

Each team would have about 3 good players, but he would always seem to have 5, which would make a huge difference at the plate and in the field.
