Bullpen Question.

I wanted to hear opinion from other Tiger fans. Do y’all consider the collapse of our bullpen to be the fault of our pitching coach, or does it have a to do more with us still having to bring in arms under Bakich to help speed up the rebuild?

good thing it was set up for us to win yesterday and today.

I mean, Burns is elite, so Friday was not unexpected and easy to accept. Winning the series is more important than one Friday game.

That’s what I’m wondering….I’m hoping it’s the latter and Bakich is having to start from scratch basically. Monte Lee and Andrew See did nothing to help with recruitment and development of pitching.
The hitting has covered up and bailed out the bull pen so often and now it’s revealed for what it is. Bad

Good question. There are "arms" there. We have plenty of guys who can bust 90 and some who get it up to 95 a lot. However, there is a big difference in being a "Thrower" and a "Pitcher" in college baseball, or baseball at any level. Every team has flamethrowers but very few have pitchers. College baseball and Minor league baseball are full of big arms. Only the "pitchers" make it to the majors and they are many times not the guys with the big arms. Pitching is an art form. Some can do it. Some can't. I think the life story of Nolan Ryan explains it best. He was blessed with a big arm his entire career but he never achieved greatness until he learned the art of pitching. Greg Maddox should be studied by every kid wanting to be a major league pitcher. He understood the art of pitching as well as any player I ever saw throw a baseball. We only have 2, maybe 3 guys at Clemson who understand this concept. Maybe they will learn.

Clemson can score, for they've proven that. But you have to have good pitching in baseball to be elite.
USC won 3 straight nat'l titles in the CWS back in the mid-2000s with great pitching under Tanner. They never scored more that 3-4 runs a game. Bakich needs to recruit better pitchers.
