Regarding Texas A&M and Jimbo Fisher:

I know bretfsu® will appreciate that one! Anybody who knew anything about his time at FSU knew he would be a major and ridiculously expensive bust at A&M. Maybe the dumbest college coaching hire of the 2000s right there.

Jimbo and Orgeron seem to be the type of coach that falls bassackward into national titles and ride off into the sunset with millions. This tells you how few quality coaches there are that A&M would spend that much money in hopes of a National Championship.

The man has an absolutely amazing ability to get huge contracts for his clients. (I think it is 12 or more SEC coaches have Sexton for an agent.)
Jimbo got the huge contract at aTm because Sexton leveraged the bidding war between LSU and aTm for his services. Both schools thought he was THE guy for them.

I could have kept going down the list but I quit at guys making 6 million bucks per year or more.

contract for Auburn to buy out. Still, he rode Scam Newton and a JR/SR laden roster that he inherited to win a nat'l title in 2010, just his second year. But when the SRs were gone and the top JRs went pro, they fell off a cliff. Also, his play-calling guru Gus Malzahn left. Next year they went 8-5, and then 3-9 with several blowout losses. Boom you're fired. Last 3 SEC games they lost 63-21 to A&M, 38-0 to UGA, 49-0 to Bama... outscored 150-21. Oh, and the 3 wins were La-Monroe, New Mex St, and Alabama-A&M. (LOL). Oh yeah, almost forgot. That was the year the Lamecocks won the East, so that's who they played in the SEC title game. Good lord, horseshoe city baby.
Yeah, he definitely lucked into a nat'l title, every possible way you can...

The kicker, and is now becoming the standard, is the more than stupid 10 year contracts. They used to all be 5 year with an extension each year so that incoming players would know (supposedly) who their coach was going to be. Spurrier's comment about only coaching a couple of more years may be the dumbest thing a coach has ever said. I think Mel Tucker was maybe the first (or second, after Fisher) to sign a 10 year contract .........dumb.

I think Michigan State holds the title of dumbest head coach hires. Though they appear to be fairly smart in getting themselves out of it.
