Cooper Zerrick

Jan 21, 2016, 8:51 PM

I watched film on that kid. His athletic skills look very promising, yet there may be a QB controversy in upcoming seasons. Y'all's thoughts?

Funny how you can't keep your mouth shut, coot.

Well, I passed high school with flying colors. I am not what you claim I am. Also, my aunt is VP at Clemson. I'm pretty sure I was raised better than that.

He looks a lot better than KB at that stage.

Yes, he has a lot of athletic similarities associated with Cam "the man" Newton.

It's definitely going to be interesting. You got Kelly Bryant, Tucker Israel, then Zerrick Cooper and the 2 new guys coming in. Looks like a slug-fest. It's going to be great competition.

Go Tigers!

Troof .
Almost guaranteed a great starter through a great mix of competition.

His arm strength stood out to me last I saw him. If I'm remembering right he seemed like a guy that would rather fire the cannon than run around.

Might be a controversy on TigerNet but not on the team. The coaches will play the best QB. End of story. Lots of fans on here think that whoever we sign will step right in & start as true freshmen.

Just to judge off film and what we have seen, Cooper, to my eyes, is a significantly better passer than Kelly Bryant. I lived in Easley and Powdersville for awhile, would love to see the Wren kid make good...but despite his incredible atheticism - he's bigger, stronger, and significantly faster even than Deshaun Watson, actually looks superior even to Cam Newton as a pure athlete - right now - please note the emphasis on "right now" for the hypersensitive - Bryant just isn't there as a passer. He looked dismal in the Shrine Bowl against future college competition throwing the ball, and he's looked pensive and tentative throwing the ball at Clemson. Deshaun Watson - or even Zerrick Cooper - as a passer, he ain't. Yet.

Of course, given his arm strength and athletic ceiling, if the light goes on for Bryant, the sky's the limit...and I'd love to see that happen. When you're 6'4" and have the kind of wheels Bryant does...well. We watched him outrun the entire Miami defense - not once, but twice, and while Deshaun runs well even he doesn't run like that. But Zerrick Cooper, to my eyes, looks like a Deshaun Watson clone in the pocket - calm, poised, unhurried, in command - and you wonder if once Cooper gets in there, anyone is going to get him out again. So Bryant's got his offseason work ahead of him.

Absolute best case would be to see Bryant really starting to emerge this Spring. At that point, Clemson is so loaded at QB it literally just isn't fair.
