Streeter should not have been fired

He shouldn't have been promoted to that permission in the first place. But it looks bad to fire a coach after one year. And he has done a lot for Clemson. Why not find another capacity for him to occupy at Clemson. He's a good recruiter. I don't know. I thought it was a mistake to make him OC, but it's just you did it and should live with that decision...at least for a few years. That's why these hires need to be done right in the first place. But I absolutely wish Streeter all the best !

You have absolutely no idea what discussions went on behind closed doors.

Exactly. Hood said things got “fiery”. Maybe Dabo offered a demotion, or even a “Co-“ role, and Streeter told him he could pound sand. No one knows.

Who came to Clemson as a result of his recruiting?

Then I'll judge your statement in bold above.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Who cane to Clemson because of Clemson?

Cade

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You're right he should've never been promoted

But that doesn't mean you have to stick with him when it's not going as planned. Sunk cost fallacy, google it.

While I don’t enjoy seeing people lose their job, I think replacing Streeter was the best move. He does have a pretty good separation package from what I’ve read. And, Dabo didn’t do it in the middle of the season. He let things play out, then made his move. Also, the program couldn’t take another season of mediocre offense. Just like business and churches, when someone isn’t working out, a change has to be made for the better of the program. It’s not always joyful and pleasant. Go Tigers!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So who should he have hired

2

Jan 13, 2023, 11:08 AM

"in the first place?" Dabo obviously felt like Streeter was ready. Something more than just our play calling proved he wasn't.

You're assuming you know far more than you know.

Don't.

Most people who get fired or demoted generally don't want to stick around. It isn't good for them and it isn't good for the organization. When a company is selecting a new CEO, they generally narrow it down to 3, and the 2 who don't get the job almost always leave the organization even though they could certainly be productive in a different capacity.

That's just the reality of organizational and human behavior.

Coaches get fired in all kinds of sports. It's not a big deal. They just move to another team. It just the coaching life. Plus the money they make is unbelievable. Some position coaches make 500k a year. For football? It's a part time job. It's show business. Streeter will be fine. He can find another coaching staff job somewhere. We owe him 1.8 mill over the next 2 years. What's his career earnings while at Clemson? However, I will say this. It not all his fault. You can't point the finger at just one guy.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In a weird way ,firing him helped him out

Jan 13, 2023, 11:24 AM

He'll get the buyout over the next 2 years. When the Dust settles ,he may move on,then again he could resurface at Clemson in Paw Journey

Or he could probably retire. Depending upon his lifestyle.

Re: Streeter should not have been fired

Jan 13, 2023, 11:44 AM

And on the other side of the coin, Streeter accepted the position. If he didn't feel he was ready he should not have accepted the position. The fault lies on both sides. I get what you are saying though, he has contributed much to Clemson but how do we know he wasn't offered another position and he turned it down? Maybe it was his decision to leave instead of taking another position.

How do we know Streeter wasn’t a placeholder

1

Jan 13, 2023, 12:42 PM

Until Dabo found “his guy”. Great offensive minds don’t grow on trees, Streeter made it very clear that Clemson needed fresh ideas and new blood pumped in to the offense . I hate it for Streeter, but he’ll be fine. He’s made more money in the last five years than most people make in a lifetime, and got the pleasure of serving on the staff of two national championship teams and working for Clemson football . That’s a dream most of us will never get close to

Where have I read that before?***

Streeter actually has a better resume than Garrett

Jan 13, 2023, 4:11 PM

Riley. It's just that his two Heisman QB finalists and two national championships as QB coach and passing game coordinator were at our Power 5 program and not someone else's. In his first year here as OC he took a 99th ranked offense to the 40's, plus nabbed a conference title.

I'm excited about the Riley hire as Dabo thought it was a good move and went out there and got it done. Considering the trust he has established over his time here with our incredible success and consistency, that's good enough for me.

Go Tigers.
