He was informed by the Clemson staff that an offer was not going to be extended and he let the other Clemson commits that he was going to commit to Notre Dame instead of continuing to wait.
He wanted a Clemson offer and likely would have committed upon visiting (That is his words, not mine).

He's listed at 5'8", 155lbs. Statures are often exaggerated so if that's the case here how small is he? I bet you he ends up a slot receiver and not a RB. 1 of 2 things is going to happen at this position this cycle.
1. Someone will blow up late or decommit late due to a coaching change and we will get our guy. This has happened in the past.
2. We will take our first true portal guy and the national media will blow up over it and label Coach Swinney a hypocrite.

If our starting RB rotation were 2 Jr’s and a Sr, we would have already had a top commit or 2. However, we have 2 So.’s and a Jr. Top RB’s want a chance to play immediately. We’ll bag 2 great ones next cycle.

I’m among those who do not see an immediate problem with our RB room. I think we’re much better than fine for this season and next.
I absolutely do think we offered the top ranked 4-5 guys in this 2023 cycle and lost them all because programs with better reputations for running the ball and getting RBs into the NFL got their attention.
And I think we are now *not* aggressively seeking mediocre talent that comes in with big expectations just to fill scholarships.
Remember, when our RB room was crowded recently, we lost *four* guys to transfer.
If we had been successful this year in recruiting one of the 5-star or high 4-star guys, it would have created the same situation all over again. In the current climate, nobody is going to be willing to sit and wait.
I’m not saying I didn’t want Clemson to sign one of those guys, but I am definitely saying it was not critical and I do believe it would have caused issues among the incumbents ..l because those highly ranked recruits would have expected to play and play a lot as freshmen and odds are they would not have seen the snaps with Pace, Shipley, and Mafah already entrenched.

several guys currently biding for playing time, plus I think we're facing some negative recruiting on our offense from last year and a lack of NFL RB personnel. ETN needs to break out, and we need to show the offense is back, and we should be able to sign two major RBs next year. It doesn't appear we're going to get a stud RB this cycle.

It's confusing as to why this is so complicated...
But, if we have a Sophomore 5 star RB (#2 in class) get seriously injured, a Sophomore 4 star RB (#11 in class) get seriously injured, and a Junior 3 star RB (who was the number 32 RB in his class) transfer, and have to start a freshman 3 star, people will complain that we weren't prepared and should have had a 5 star who is a dynamic "immediate impact" type of guy, but was willing to sit for a year or two and wait his turn and even if that guy doesn't exist, we should have found him and CJ is a terrible recruiter and why is Dabo letting him run recruiting with no success at all and we are falling off because we used to stack up 5 star RBs and now we don't and there is a clear drop off in recruiting even though there is no metric that supports this, but they will point to production in 2021 which was actually a product of many variables, but when you are not very bright you tend to put all the blame on one thing, this is known as a scapegoat, but still it is a fact and everyone can see it but Dabo and CJ and we need to really not get complacent because that will be the end of our run, even though it's clear that the end of our run has already started and you can't see it because you are a pumper and refuse to see the truth through your orange colored glasses and Dabo isn't a god, so you need to be prepared for what is happening, and even if we do lose a bunch of guys the coaches will refuse to go to the portal mid season and get a replacement that will come in and make an immediate impact and will already know the system and is exactly what we need and that's because Dabo is stuck in his ways and won't adapt and that's a huge problem, and unless CJ finds a 5 star this recruiting cycle, it's all over, what happened to best is the standard, thanks a lot Dabo.

I don't understand the depth needed at RB this year, we have 3 that could start any game...then Keith Adams Jr as a 4th. More than likely will have a walk on or 2. The 2024 class will be the primary concern for a couple RB's. With just a Jr and 2 Sophs ready to go....its not a pressing need this class.

After last year, you would imagine people would be desperate for a high level RB recruit. We literally just went through an injury plagued season. Depth is vital. Back to back classes of last resort RBs doesn’t seem like a wonderful thing.

not 2. People are asleep on Adams IMO. He’s more than capable of playing at the championship level Clemson is used to. He was not really rated high for 3 reasons. 1)short Junior Covid season 2)lack of camps-Covid 3)transferred to basically a football/recruiting desert for his senior year.
Not sure that we will take one this year. Probably 2 next year but when we do, wouldn’t be surprised to have 6 on the roster for 2024 and that will be an issue the other way

Maybe the lack of a high level 2023 RB commitment can be used as an advantage by Dabo and the Tigers to zero in on the top 2024 RB that checks all the boxes.

I think Johnson is our guy. Per 247 there are 22 uncommitted RBs in the top 100. Of those zero ( 0 )
list Clemson in their fianl group. This has to change. Clemson IS elite. There is no debate. Alabama , Ohio ST and Georgia all recruit RB at the highest level in the country regardless of their situation at the RB position. We have to change the perception of what it means to be a RB at Clemson. I believe it may very well be attributed to play on the O line. If Austin can continue his success on the recruiting trail and have several back to back classes like he just brought in we could very well be turning the page. It goes without saying they must produce. It's one more reason this season is pivotal. The same could be said about our recent WR classes but that's a convo for another day.

Johnson is a Miami lean but with Edwards. Going to nd it helps us with three haffigan because Edwards is more of a slot receiver back and that takes catches away from hafigan
