You guys are looking at this RN thing all wrong

Jul 6, 2012, 11:28 AM

Why is the only thing we hear is, "5 for 1, 5 for 1." Nkemdiche, Gallman, and Kamara are all legitimate D1 talents. The QB is coming in as a preferred walk-on. So, really offering Carter is more like "1 for 5" not "5 for 1."

Agreed

The whole thing has been twisted around.

Thank you! This guy gets it. I think most of our fans must not watch much pro sports. Sometimes to get guys you want, you have to do things to enice them to come to your team. Recruiting is essentially a longer, more painful free agency period.

I understand your points, but...

this is not pro and he is a high school player. Granted he's the #1 recruit but I don't like, first of all saying this in public. And then he says "Done deal if..." I thought he committed to Clemson without the if's.

I agree that it's super annoying. You have the diva attitude of a pro athlete mixed with the immaturity of a high schooler. That being said, unlike pro ball, we can't legally use money to entice players to come here, so we have to do everything in our power to gain a competitive edge. College sports is becoming a business, but instead of dollars, we pay players in promises. Clemson offering RN's buddy and gaining the reputation of being a player-friendly school can't possiblybe that bad of a thing.

keep thier promises. If this article is in fact true, RN has a different definition of commit than I do. He already said it was a done deal. It is one thing to ask the coaches to take a look at his colleague but not make demands, but I do trust Dabo to handle this the way that is best for the team.

In a perfect world, recruits would have the "playing for school pride and a scholly" mentality. However, in the current state of college football, a recruit's commitment prior to signing day has all the weight of a Dwight Howard promise, and since the ball firmly rests in their court with regards to where they will play ball, sometimes we have to bite the bullet and acquiesce their requests in the name of having a good team. Winning in college football is 90% recruiting the best players.

I think most Clemson fans trust that Dabo will either

offer or not offer based on the best interests of Clemson after assessing the abilities of each player.

I think most are frustrated with a recruit publicly challenging our coach to take a friend of his, lest his commitment (which has already been provided) be put at risk.

According to rivals Carter has a 2.2 gpa, can he even get in with that. He might not have that many offers because everyone knows he's not going to qualify.
