got a lot of grief on TigerActive during the game, but how many times have we had a running back with 161 yards in a game?

when you have to have it on 3d down and short. You have to be able to run the ball between the tackles or you are a turnover waiting to happen. We have got to be able to to hit folks in the mouth inside the 10 yard line. Impose your will on the defense. Our OL doesn't run block on inside runs and most of the yardage was outside. That cannot happen if you expect to win big over the long haul. Numbers can be misleading especially when you look our our red zone ineptitude.

No. Seriously, how many times did Terry Allen, James Priester, James Davis, Andre Ellington, Travis Zachary or CJ Spiller get 161 or better in a game?
And that list, btw, is in order of average yards per game in their career.

OK. So now we are getting somewhere. That's two games. Back to my original question: how many times have we had a running back get more than 161 yards rushing in a game?

Ellington against Auburn last year had 228.
I think it happens more often than you would think. You're making it sound like a record breaking performance.
Also, Ellington only ran 25 times against Auburn.

Sorry I upset you. I was just curious. Didn't in any way suggest it was record setting, but, given the responses so far, we've got four games in all of Clemson history, so, apparently, it is a fairly rare occurrence. Just sayin.

in the backfield on virtually every running play. Our OL is nowhere near as physical as they should be, period, end of story. I love the Tigers and have for over 35 years. Our OL is a glaring weakness on our football team and it's not even debatable. Especially in the running game.

Clemson plays RB by committee. It is very very rare for a CU

RB to get 30 carries in a game. Ford typically rotated 3 tailbacks and 2 fullbacks. I can't recall the last time a CU RB got 30 carries or even close.

You don't get it. Total yards is meaningless. What matters

is having the ability to control the line of scrimmage. Having the ability to consistently convert 3rd and short, 4th and short. The ability to get that tough yard when you need it or convert 3rd or 4th and goal. We haven't had that ability since the Ford years. Sometimes we can do it and when we do it's typically by Boyd keeping it, but that is not ideal. We simply do not have, nor have we had, a dominant OL in a very long time. We often struggle to get that tough yard even against smaller far less talented teams like SC State.

I do get it. Our 3rd down conversion percentage at .427 ranks 55th in the NCAA (below such stalwart front lines as Akron, Duke, and Arkansas State).
That said, I'm still curious about how often a Clemson player rushes for over 161 yards in a game. Apparently, not that frequently so my hats off to HRod and company.
Savoring the win and enjoying watching number 63 of MO make Clowney look like a porpoising walrus.

Lot of plays bouncing off the middle and spinning to the outside. To much pressure on the QB.

If they play two safeties deep

We should have about 300 yds rushing.
If They are protecting against the deep ball they are daring you to run it.
Wish we had Ja'lon already.
And when can we move Thomas to G and battle to T already? After we look lost against the stupi coots?
