OT: Anyone tried the Insanity Workout?

Aug 9, 2012, 9:56 AM

I am going on day 4, and feeling pretty sore, but still encouraged and ready to go! Just wanted to get a few opinions of people trying it or have completed it. Thanks!

What? Killin' a 12-pack in 30 minutes? Yeah, what's up?

I have completed the Insanity workout program twice.

Aug 9, 2012, 10:17 AM

Very intense program (albeit a bit repetitive or redundant), but if you fully commit and stick to it, you will absolutely get results.

Re: I have completed the Insanity workout program twice.

Aug 9, 2012, 10:22 AM

Awesome! I'm not that big to begin with, but just want to lean out. Being 6'4 and going up and down has created quite a bit of soreness in my back as well, haha.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I can tell you....

Aug 9, 2012, 10:27 AM

that if you have any type of pre-existing back or knee problems, Insanity is probably not the workout program for you.

About mid way through week two, most of the soreness you're feeling now should be gone.

If you think the first four weeks are intense, wait untill you get to week six. Shawn T really really kicks it up a notch.

If your goal is to build and tone muscle, P90-X is actually a better option compared to Insanity.

You can do it!

Aug 9, 2012, 10:18 AM

Did it- got the T-shirt. It's tough. Going to try Tapout XT now. Stay with it and you will see results. Good luck!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

tapout xt is great. highly recommend it.***

Wife and I do Insanity/P90X/P90X2 Hybrid.

Aug 9, 2012, 10:47 AM

Lifting/strength/Core stuff from P90X/X2 on M W F, with Insanity for cardio on T TH Sat, and either X2 Yoga or recovery workouts on Sunday.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I am currently doing the same thing....

Aug 9, 2012, 10:52 AM

combining elements of Insanity with P90-X

I loved it, myself.

Aug 9, 2012, 11:31 AM

Just wanted to see if it kept your interest and if you got the results you were looking for. I'm 6'4 245 but really need to be about 215 or 220, so just want to lean out in the belly. Right before I ordered the Insanity I saw I had the back fat roll, and knew the time had come, haha!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

my thoughts...

Aug 9, 2012, 11:39 AM

Find a workout you enjoy, press play every day and do the best you can, eat better and you Will get results. The key is to eat better with the workouts. I use the myfitness pal app and log all my food each day. Stay under the goals it gives you each day and you will lose weights. I have mine set to lose 2 lbs a week. I am the identical height and weight you are. Well less now thanks to tapout xt. Stay with it. Press play each day and you Will easily get to 215. My goal is under 210.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree that your diet is a key component....

Aug 9, 2012, 12:05 PM

and while I did not really change my normal diet, I did stop drinking soft drinks and tea. I also stopped eating between meal snacks, dessert type foods, and snacks before bed.

One of the biggest changes I made was that I started drinking a protein recovery formula after each workout and in the morning for breakfast.

I did experiment with Shakeology for a short time but it's grossly over-priced and it tastes like $#!7 (especially the greenberry and the strawberry).

25 to 30 pounds would not be unrealistic IMO....

Aug 9, 2012, 11:40 AM [ in reply to Re: Hell yes I have! What would you like to know? ]

I'm not going to lie, with family and work commitments (among others), it can be tough to find time to workout everyday but if you fully commit to the program, watch what you eat, and stick to it, you will get the results you want.

The Wii Fit said I should be 185lbs. I would dissappear!***

Aug 9, 2012, 11:44 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I went from 227 to 200...

Aug 9, 2012, 11:55 AM

so I can tell you from direct first hand experience, losing 25+ is not unrealistic.

According to Wii Fit, I am supposed to weight less than 175 which hasn't happend since I was in high school (31 years ago).

I definitely got the results I wanted out of it, but that

Aug 9, 2012, 1:50 PM [ in reply to Re: Hell yes I have! What would you like to know? ]

all depends on how much you're willing to put into it. I was around 225 when I started (6'1") and I wanted to get down to 185. That's a tall order for just two months, but that's exactly what I did. You just have to be totally committed to it (ALL IN) to the point of being obsessive about it. Stick to the diet book that it came with. Totally cut out sodas and fast food for a while. I don't touch that stuff anyway, so I didn't have to worry about that, but if it's something you're used to, you'll need to quickly get un-used to it. However if you do fall off the wagon on the odd day, it's alright. Just work harder the next day. It also helps if you have someone else that you know doing it at the same time so you can push each other. Just stick with it, even on the days you think you just can't do it, once you get started, you'll be alright. Even a 50% effort on those days is better than a 0% effort. Expect to be really sore when you first start and then expect to be sore again when you start the 2nd month videos, and most importantly, learn to love pushing yourself harder than you think you can.

never done insanity but i am on day 32 of...

Aug 9, 2012, 10:52 AM

Tapout XT. It's awesome and as fun as working out gets. It's 90 days instead of 60 but its mma based and its a good workout that involves punching, kicking, knees, resistance bands and is a total core workout. Highly recommend it. 23 lbs and about 9 inches gone in 30 days. Bring on the next 60

Pace yourself, watch your joints. I injured my wrist hitting

Aug 9, 2012, 2:44 PM

the floor with all those ups and downs as the workout progressed. Now I use a small barbell, cheap version of the "perfect pushup" device, to keep from hyperextending the wrist.

I'm 45 yo so not a young buck. When you get into the Max workouts it's pretty hardcore. If you feel good then nail it, but you don't need to keep his pace to have a great workout and be in excellent shape.

I've done a lot of training, and this stuff is great, but you must keep mind of your joints as it is not low impact, but if you watch yourself you can keep it moderate. Pace yourself, don't burn out in a workout. Everyone has different abilities.

Good Work!
