Watching Elite 11....

Dec 26, 2014, 7:58 PM

And two things stand out:

1) Is Trent Dilfer really that qualified to critique QBs like that? He was an average at best QB who won a Super Bowl with defense. I think he has got an ego from this gig.

2) Some will argue this, but it seems like most of the QBs are from Nike supported schools like Oregon, Alabama, etc. There are some guys who are at Adidas schools like UCLA, Michigan, and TAM, but no Under Armour schools are represented. I know the show takes place at Nike HQ, but does anyone else notice this?

Nice cameo by Tajh.

you don't have to be an all-star to be a great coach

Dec 26, 2014, 8:06 PM

and all top level pro's wont be good coaches, Jeff Scott was only a walk-on and it's fair to say that he is one of the top WR coaches in the country. Also Nike sponsors 2/3's of the FBS teams so naturally they would draw the most recruits to the elite 11.

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

Jeff Scott comes from a coaching family so I don't know if you can make that comparison.

Trent Dilfer played a long time in the NFL***

Some of the best coaches have been average players at best. The elite athletes can be rather crappy coaches.

To support my argument I will examine the last two SF 49er coaches. Mike Singletary all world LB was crappy during his brief stint. Average QB Harbaugh got significantly better results.

Of course there are many examples out there that probably blow up my argument.

Fact is that Dilfer was the #6 overall pick out of Fresno State and had a 13 year career. Not bad qualifications in my book.

What coaching experience does Dilfer have?

Could he coach QBs in college or the NFL?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes.

Dec 26, 2014, 8:44 PM

If he was interested in becoming a coach on those levels.

Playing and coaching are two totally different things.

George Rogers won a heisman, will he be the next scar coach?? Hmm they may actually bite on that one.

I get that. But what coaching resume does Trent Dilfer have? Can you tell me any player he developed before he was handed an ESPN/Nike sponsored shoe with the best young qbs in the nation?

You get to choose between Peyton Manning and Trent Dilfer for your son to spend the day with getting QB help. Who do you choose?

That Dilfer Dimes thing is probably the dumbest thing on espn. And that's saying something. I don't mind espn most of the time butDilfer is not entertaining. Also he just doesn't seem as knowledgable as some of the others either. Just my $0.02

Whats worse is George Whitfield. He never even played in the league, and is looked at as one of the best in the country

Dilfer has great knowledge on how the position is supposed..

Dec 27, 2014, 11:31 AM

to be played. So what if he was an average NFL QB, he still has vast knowledge on the correct way to play the position. You can learn a lot from listening to Dilfer talk about the QB position.
