Eating your mascot

Aug 19, 2012, 10:51 PM

While on my 8-1/2 hr (should have only been 7 but traffic decided otherwise) drive from cootulumbia to the DC area I started to think about schools where fans eat their mascot.

I have decided that scu is among a very select group who eats thier mascot. In fact I only came up with 8 that were pretty straightforward.

Obvious - the majority of the fans eat their mascot.
scu gamecoots - chicken is a popular tailgating food everywhere and there is no exception in chickenville.
Texas longhorns - you talk BBQ in TX and you are talking beef. For the record, the longhorn is NOT a good eating cow.
Arky Razorbacks - put a whole other meaning to pig suey
Virginia Tech Hokies - they sell (and are rather proud of) turkey legs in the stadium. Need you say more?
Univ of South Florida Bulls - hamburgers anyone?

Not the first thing you think of but not a big stretch
Florida Gators - they say it "taste like chicken"
Maryland Terripins - can you say turtle soup?
Oregon Ducks - a la orange, Peking, etc

Anyone else think of any others?

for as many games as possible. When we were at the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando a few years back playing Colorado, we were walking around Downtown Disney and looking for a place to eat. We were kind of feeling Italian, so we walked up to the menu at that particular restaurant to see their menu. Buffalo Osso Bucco...SOLD! It was delicious, too! Served us well the next day, too.

If any of you have seen any of the Wrong Turn movies. All based in West Virginia. They are a bunch of cannibals eating other mountain people. So I guess that counts.

SMU (and Bose st) are both horses. Not many Americans eat them since it is very hard to get in the US.
