sounds like Amick lays the blame on clemson coaching staff

1

Jul 8, 2023, 12:35 AM

Was just reading some statements Amick made after announcing his committment to Tenn. He said he was looking for somewhere where he would be valued and wanted coaches that he could enjoy playing for. He said no player wanted to be told how to play their game and be placed in a cookie cutter. If he was being honest then he left because of the coaching staff and how they handled him.

Precisely. In fact he also said something along those lines, he said Tenn would let "Me be me"

I expect we see trouble down the road for UT athletics. They seem to be at it again with the recruiting enticements. Nowadays, however, a lot of what was cheating may not be. I'm happy with where we are as a program, except I'd like to see our Basketball program be better.

Did he mention "team" anywhere?

And more than that, what excellent well-behaved gentleman they all are. Very, very, respectable human beings. Not trashy, not trashy at all, those guys.

Your sarcasm is well said. I wouldn't want to trade places with any of their teams.

I’d take Barnes back. It’s more fun losing 1st round March Madness than NIT 1st round.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sounds like he doesn't like to be coached.

6

Jul 8, 2023, 4:19 AM

So he seems to think he could have gotten better this year all on his own without any help. If he had issues with the Clemson coaches he should move on, but who thinks he won't have any issues with the Tennessee coaches.

Maybe college is just a nuisance he thought he head to endure on his way to the minors and the majors. Hope he finds what he's looking for, finds some maturity, and becomes a team player.

Wow! .413 batting average, 13 home runs, 60 something rbi, 1st team all american … I would think think most players would appreciate being put into that cookie cutter!

He’s too much of a sugar cookie to handle coaching apparently

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah he pretty much confirmed what everyone said

6

Jul 8, 2023, 6:57 AM

He rolled into town thinking he owned the place because of who his grandpa was. Turns out he had to actually work for a spot and that didn’t sit right with him.

I’m sure he also heard a lot of “oh that’s your grandpa? We won’t hold it against you” type comments that he didn’t expect or know how to handle.

If you’ve been raised a spoiled brat it’s hard to morph into a responsible human overnight.

Mr Amick is going to have problems at the next level. Minor league baseball is all about being coached and being told what to do to prepare for the majors.
He may have hurt himself with some of those statements. There may be clubs not willing to deal with that type attitude.
I hope he finds the rainbow he is looking for.

He wanted to play 3b too. Maybe it wasn't a good fit to play a Clemson. He could be making the best decision for himself now, as much as we wish he would have stayed. It's all relative.

Put me in the minority but he exposed who he is.

i know a player on the team very well. hung out with some of the players and parents who stay out in right field and i can assure you every player and parent i spoke with absolutely love the current staff. loooooooove. UT is for sure run different than clemson. that is very evident. i guess certain players do not like structure and discipline. more power to them. in this case , good riddance.

Did any of those ever express a feeling of disappointment with the previous staff? Were you as indignant with them as you are with folks on here for voicing anything but positive opinions? Or, if they were just as positive about the last staff, do you not see how meaningless blanket positivity is?

Pretty straightforward. The poster stated that he was glad that Amick was gone. I told him, "Then it all worked out for you." He got what would make him happy and Amick is gone.

The individual goal (for most) is to get drafted as high as possible to get the "bigger" contract and signing bonus. MLB will sort out what position you will play in the minors. If you want to keep gettting that big check you'll play what position they say.

Wait a minute, did TN tell Amick that "you can be you" but as long you're collecting NIL money, we know who you are?

Telling someone how to play the game seems like part of the job description for a coach.

He's in for a helluva shock when (and if) he hits the minor

leagues, then. That's all ABOUT coaching. And, he won't be able to transfer when his wittle feewings get the hurt.

Look, Amick is not a criminal, he is like thousands of other college students who transfer every year. Nobody should criticize a young man or woman for deciding a different school is better for their needs, it happens every day.

It's not that he left for me, it's how he left. He's a grown man and he played little boy games. If this coaching staff wasn't for Jim nothing wrong with that. This isn't the staff that recruited him though it is the staff that turned him into an All-American. Just be a man. You noticed he didn't put out nothing stating how much he loves Clemson or anything though he supposedly "bleeds orange". To me he is a spoiled brat that has probably gotten everything handed to him. He wasn't a position player at Clemson so he thinks he is going to UT and beating someone out there for a position? No doubt the UT coaches told him whatever he wanted to hear but I can promise there hasn't been nor could I see an EX-Tiger player I'll p ull against harder than him. I don't wish any ill will but I do hope his bat has a big hole in it next year.
