Followed his recruitment, like most of you, and was blown away by his abilities. Dude was a vicious defensive end and an explosive RB. He made a move his SR season to IMG and that impressed me from a commitment perspective. The ceiling was incredibly high and I thought he might be akin to Vic Beasily but more developed.

Freshman year, the dude was on track! Blew up the SU QB for that amazing win that propelled the ‘18 team. He was just relentless in limited snaps. Couldn’t wait to see him as a starter.

In ‘19, that D was a mash unit and ran a lot of 3 man fronts. That hurt the DL performance IMO. But XT still showed flashes.

‘20… whew. Covid, weight gain, and shadowy off the field issues (I believe depression but at the time it was opaque as to what was happening).

From ‘21 until now was actually what impressed me about XT. He just fought and fought and fought. Covid, depression, foot injury, injuring the foot again, etc etc. He just kept pushing.

‘23 the season doesn’t go as planned, we all know the story. He was reliable and returned to form as an elite pass rusher. He chose to play in the bowl game while others opted out.

XTs story turned out very different than I expected watching his recruiting. But he ended up being one of my favorite players for a different reason than I expected. Dude is a fighter. I wish him nothing but the best and hope he crushes it at the next level.

Exactly - he is a rarity in the current college football landscape. Especially for someone who came in with all the hype, expectations, and accolades. He was about his business this year.

above adversity than many of us have in our whole lives. He will be successful in life, whether he is successful in football going forward or not.

That’s maybe a better way of putting my sentiment. During recruiting, I was excited about his potential as a football player. Now, I respect him as a young man. He has had a journey.
