WYFF and UGA

Jan 8, 2022, 9:09 PM

What’s the love affair WYFF has with UGA? They’ve been running an “editorial” all week promoting the Dawgs. I watch their sports tonight and their two sports anchors are at the game giving reports. Then they are having a special prior to the game Monday. Lot of love for the Dawgs when most of your viewership are Tigers and Gamecocks.

May they have a lot of viewers in north GA, who are UGA fans***

Northeast Ga is in WYFF’s Market — But I agree

With you it’s over the Top. They got to Indy before both Teams arrived!

What's any different than them doing it for us? Because they did.

In all fairness parts of N.Georgia in their coverage area. I have noticed it too and it's seemed a little over the top. Pretty sure Athens itself is in the Atlanta TV market and gets local NBC on 11 Alive in the ATL.

WYFF is owned by Hearst so they may be partnering with the Hearst station in Birmingham to do reports for both markets. I believe there was some of that when Clemson would play Bama in the playoffs.

They probably got used to the extra cash sent to the station

when they would go on the trips for Clemson and if they had a year when they didn't go anywhere, they wouldn't get the extra money the next season. Kinda like if a city has a $15M budget and one year they only use $10M, then they would only get $10M the next year instead of the usual $15M
