Wondering if anybody believes Education Still Lures kids to schools?

Are the days of even bothering to go by the academic schools on your campus over? Have they been over for that matter?

If any of you played college athletics and got your degree and are now doing well in life. Not only from the degree, but from the lessons the various sports teach you.
Have any of you given thought to the fact some of these kids will end up "not having taken advantage of the opportunity".
The NFL will eventually complain too. Some kids are only satisfied with the bare minimum or at least more than I started with. With N.I.L they can leverage some really good payouts; having not paid for school. Maybe even be in position to not worry about the NFL or NBA. Why? Because to them that $500K or whatever is a lot of money and a head start.

They lose that "eye of the Tiger" and hunger to keep getting better. No league: no problem - I have my N.I.L money.
The ones who didn't have a coach/culture like Dabo and Clemson likely went to schools who gave 2-cents as to if they actually got an education.
I think you will start hearing horror stories on 30 for 30 and other sports documentaries about this era of college sports. Specifically on the highest level of the sport.

What % of these kids would any of you guess are actually trying to get an education at the highest level of college football and basketball? My guess is 50%.

This is most definitely correct . No doubt that women's sports in general carry much higher gpa's and graduation rates

The vast majority of college athletes never make any money, other than some sort of scholarship. It’s very few athletes that get any NIL or ever turn pro. The IVY doesn’t even give scholarships but they still have teams.

As for players in the “highest level” of football and basketball, I doubt even 50% (maybe 15%) care about the school, just the potential to turn pro and NIL $. But they are a small percentage of “college athletes “.

I know a lot of kids that play college sports (small D1-D3) that chose their school based on academics/major with athletics 2nd.

Women’s sports is different but similar. I think more D1 women (outside of basketball) choose schools based on academics/major. Women are smarter.

We put too much emphasis on a handful of athletes and forget about the thousands of others.
