With high inflation comes a higher dad tax on candy.

It’s just basic economics.

Is candy not considered a food item?

Haven't bought any in a long time.

I think if it contains a legit nut or coconut it’s food.

If it’s full of peanut butter it gets taxed

Tonight my 7 yo and 9 yo asked, “What does vested interest mean?”

I told them it’s a position that may be very rewarding or very costly depending on the circumstances.

I then asked them if they had a vested interest in the price of candy, to which they replied, “No, because we get that for free when we trick-or-treat.”

I then asked how their free candy acquisition might be affected if all the households in our neighborhood were faced with the prospect of purchasing extremely expensive candy, to which they replied, “Oh. I guess there’s less free stuff when the people who pay for it can’t buy as much.”

So, today we all learned about scarcity and economics and socialism. Happy Halloween indeed.

I don’t know if this year is any higher than years past but I have already charged them a few snickers and a sour twizzler looking thing. Tomorrow I’ll do a deep dive and confiscate most of the almond joys.

+1 for Almond Joy confiscation.

Cut the candy in half and give those miniature consumers less.
