With CBB back; predict our record next year?

Mar 9, 2017, 8:46 PM

If CBB is back and sadly the gutless DRad won't do a thing I say we will be about 13-17. We well have very little inside scoring presence with JB and SD gone. It should make for a very long season IMHO.

What say you?

Re: With CBB back; predict our record next year?

Mar 9, 2017, 10:51 PM

I would wait to see what players stay or go to the NBA before really making predictions.

Still it hard to see Clemson being as good as they were this year. I am not sure where the scoring or inside game is comeing from and the recruiting class is 14th out of 15 teams.

Also the schedule contains no favors in the ACC with 2 games against FSU and UNC.

Clemson 2017-18
Home/Road: Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, NC State
Home: Miami, Duke, Louisville, Pitt, Notre Dame
Road: Wake Forest, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Syracuse

In the ACC at best 9-9 from the schedule, but we must finish with at least nineteen overall wins to have a chance to get a twentieth in the ACC tourney. Anything less puts us on the bubble.

Go Tigers!

I think we will be better next year than this year. Shelton Mitchell and Marquis Reed will be a really good backcourt. Add that with Elijah Thomas being a stud doenlow teamed up with Stars who transferred from Valpo.
I have never been a big Blossomgame fan. Nice player but not great.
Also with have Grantham, Devoe and some nice other young pieces for depth

The ACC will be tough as usual. Will we schedule a tough out of conference schedule or play a cupcake schedule to protect Brownell? Will the schedule have a lot of Wofford types or Oklahoma types? The freshmen are going to have play like veterans if we expect to get better than the win total this year. Remember these kids aren't Parade All Americans. Realistically break even will be doing good and maybe slightly worse! No Tournament bid! Drad will really feel the heat.

Mar 10, 2017, 11:37 AM

we lose some early OOC games we should not, but most believe we are not very good--- we then play fairly well in the ACC-- we are in the NCAAT discussion with about 4 games to go

there will be serious bubble talk, and BB will be lauded for overcoming the loss of JB-- then we will lose a few late ones, and not make the NCAAT

that is EXACTLY what will happen

Here's next season. Drad knows that keeping Brownell is not popular. He has to cover his behind. He will make sure that our out of conference schedule is weak so that Brownell can rack up some wins. Even then he will lose to teams that he shouldn't. That will hurt strength of schedule. Brownell will have to well in the ACC to make up the losses. He may break even and will be begging for an NIT bid. The fans get upset again. What does Drad do?

Re: 12-18 with an invite to the Pumpers Invitational***

Mar 10, 2017, 1:13 PM

Thats not nonsense. Look over the last 7 years of Brownells teams and you see the likes of Wofford, Highpoints, and Elons on our schedule. I do give them credit for playing Georgia and Alabama last season. We have to play Carolina. If we are in a tournament,we see a quality team. Barnes and Purcell played tough schedules. Next season rides on the improvement of players. Grantham has to shake the cobwebs out of his head and be the great player that he was supposed to be. Devoe has to get better. Thomas needs to be better defensively and make layups. Freshmen need to grow up fast in the ACC. That's a tall order when even Parade All Americans struggle in their first year. Drad is taking a big gamble hoping all these things happen. If they do Brownell becomes a hero. If not the heat is on. I have one question. After seven years, how much more time do we give Brownell?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: 12-18 with an invite to the Pumpers Invitational***

Mar 10, 2017, 1:21 PM

lol Purnell played tough OOC schedules??? You mean like the one he did when we started out like 17-0 and failed to make the NCAA T due to how awful that schedule was.

holy crap you have to be trolling now and yes your reply had jack #### to do with my post.

I recall the last coaches argument was about Leggett. He was a Hall of Fame coach. The Leggett loyalists staunchly defended their man. They won as Drad kept him. One year later he failed miserably and Monte Lee came in. The change was needed. What are the Brownell people saying? Give him more time. Let's hope it works out better for him. Answer my question. How much longer do we give Brownell?

My old screen name has nothing to do with the state of the basketball team. Personally I like Brownell as a person . I liked Bowden too but he failed to win enough at Clemson. Brownell is paid to recruit well and win games and make the big dance. Those are the parameters that most coaches are judged by. Didn't Drad just fire a coach for not winning?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: With CBB back; predict our record next year?

Mar 10, 2017, 4:56 PM

Its funny, because I could see an argument that he will have more talent next year than this year. I mean Grantham will develop. Devoe will get better. Mitchell is really talented and so is Reed. And IMO Elijah Thomas is better than Djitte. Legend Robertin will also develop. But with all that being said, with BrownL back, expect to at least make 1 tournament:the ACC tournament. They may squeak into the NIT. But as long as BrownL is there no matter how much talent we have, I am sure there will always be personnel issues on last possessions to lose us games. And last time I checked, the coach is in charge of personnel issues on every possession. I am not a fan of BrownL obviously. Shown NO improvement over 7 years. Made the big dance 1 time with Purnell's talent. People dont realize that before it is all said and done this guy is gonna be at Clemson for a whole decade with not NCAA tounrey appearances except for the one that wasnt his talent. Im sorry if I offend any BrownL supporters but you cant blame me as a die hard Clemson fan to want to win. He doesnt win as much as I think he should. I want a change. I want to win.

I agree. I dont care who coaches this team as long as that person recruits top talent , wins more games in the ACC, and gets us in the tournament. Do what's necessary to sign better players.
