Why Watson should start...
Sep 6, 2014, 3:43 PM
|
|
I like Stoudt, I love Watson. Why? Watson makes our offense run the way it is meant to run. He makes our oline better, backs and wr better. The threat of the run option puts the defense in conflict.
Stoudt has the pressure of trying to be perfect because of limited mobility, and the lack of run threat.
Some of you believe Stoudt should be QB because it would be "unfair" not to let him start. He backed up Boyd, son of an nfl QB. He knows the offense, etc etc. if you didn't know these guys bio and just watched who would you think is better?
Let the offense open up. Unfortunately the way we ran the QB power at uga we might not have the luxury to choose if one of them gets hurt.
If we are going to win, or lose, let's do it with our best QB.

The whole offense runs faster with Watson. His passes and release time is quicker too.

Have to agree. I love Dabo but sometimes he's loyal to his senior players to a fault.

He scored everytime and cole stoudt should have had 2 picks

atleast. Everyone can see watson his head and shoulders over cole stoudt in every aspect besides hair, he's faster, his reads are way better his passes have way more power and are as accurate as you could ask for and most importantly his release is 100 times better than Coles, coke stoudt takes forever to find open targets and by the time he does he gets pressured and gets happy feet and either tries to run, dump it off or takes a sack. This game shows more than even the georgia game because cole stoudt struggled at times against weak competition where deshaun watson scored a td every time he touched the ball and had more points than stoudt while being in half as much. A blind man could see watson is much better. You can't even say anything about stoudt is better because watson leaves no question he's better in every way.

Because Stoudt threw three passes caught beyond the line of scrimmage in the UGA game?

I'll say this again: Watson executes the plays he knows very
Sep 6, 2014, 3:48 PM
|

well but I guarantee you he doesn't have the grasp of the playbook that Stoudt does. That's just a product of him being a senior.
We're going to need a wider breadth of plays in league play than he knows right now. Especially to win in Tally in two weeks.

If Watsom didn't have a grasp of the playbook, I don't think he would touch the field period.

You should stick to wommmmens soccer if you believe that Watson can't run more of the offense than Proctor. Watson only needs two plays to make the offense work better than Proctor.

Comparing Cole to Proctor?

You don't know jack if you are making that comparison. Proctor was a ball dispenser and nothing more.

Even if this were true, which I'm not convinced that it is, (Dabo himself said he knows the whole offense) I believe great execution of a few plays trumps knowing a whole bunch of plays.

Watson does execute his plays, very well. He also makes things happen when the plays break down. Stoudt, not as much.
If we can't get first downs in Tally it won't matter how many plays we have in the playbook. We won't set anything up with 3 and outs.
If I'm FSU I'm hoping to see Stoudt. It puts a ton of pressure on him. IMHO at FSU is a turning point for our season. Lose and championships are off the table and we are hoping to win out and get a decent bowl. Win, and we can win out and be in the final four. Heck of a game to go in to with a QB controversy.
We should know by first quarter who our guy will be for the rest of the season.

As I said in another thread.....Morris looks more comfy calling plays when 4 is in the game.

How much of the playbook do you think Watson has picked up already? Stoudt has 4 years in the system and I'll guarantee you he's got at least twice the plays that Watson does. Watson is the future but he's not ready to be the starter.

He knows the playbook according to Dabo....
Sep 6, 2014, 4:02 PM
|
|
“But so has Deshaun, and we’ve got to get him some experience,” Swinney said. “He’s not a package guy. We’re not going to bring him in on short yardage. He’s not only playing on (one) side of the field.
“He has performed great,” he said. “When he goes in there, it’s going to be (an) open playbook.”

People need to stop saying he's the future. He's now. He ran this offense in high school the past 4 years. Cole learned it and watched Boyd play.
In a way, Watson has more experience.
Even if Cole knows 1000 plays, if he goes 3 and out it doesn't matter. I'd rather have a dozen plays Watson can run effectively and put the defense in conflict because of his pass/run threat.

Do you want 100% of the knowledge of the playbook and 50% of the ability to execute it. Or 50% of the knowledge of the playbook and 100% of the ability to execute it.
I'll take Watson and the plays he knows over Stoudt and the plays he can make.

Watson has more .td's passes

through 2 games with a third of the attempts. Who gives a ##### how much of the playback he knows if he's scoring more with less attempts. Its apple's to apple's comparison. I wasn't a believer of the Watson hype till after this game. I figured his limited action against uga may have been a fluke. He was 8of 9 for 154 yds and 3 tds with 17 yds per attempt. Given a full 18 pass attempts he would have at least 250 yds passing and 4 tds even if his numbers dropped off. Given his ability to avoid sacks, its hard not to say he's a more efficient qb.

The FSU game could be ugly with either Stoudt or Watson at QB. I feel like Watson gives us a better chance to win, albeit a slim one. Unless the coaches feel like a rough game against FSU could shake Watson's confidence. I think Watson should start or at least take the majority of the snaps.

Watson is great. He is far better than I expected at this point. He is the QB of the future, and the future begins with FSU!!!
