More in exit fees - averaged per year - than the contract pays them per year? There must have been some figures presented that have not materialized and to pay more to get out than what you are making seems like extortion to me.
But, I wouldn't have signed the stoopid thing to start with.

Clemson made a bad business decision, likely exacerbated by poor legal counsel.***

Well we are tied to the stupid decisions by the ACC to sign a 20 year deal at a time when college football is obviously changing… while the sec and big 10 signed 7 and 10 year deals I believe , which with the environment of college football and the money is a lot smarter to not be bound long term …. Just add it to the long list of stupidly from the ACC unfortunately

The SEC deal is only 2 years shorter than the ACC.

Clemson leadership voted twice for the Grant of Rights. This crap of blaming someone else (Swofford, UNC,the lawyers) for what we do not like is convenient, but we voted YES and signed off on the GOR.
POGO....."We have met the enemy and he is us."

Clemson signed the contract, they could have said no. Don’t put all of the blame on the ACC for schools making bad decisions.

At the time the ACC had just lost Maryland to the B1G and the focus was on the risk that was right in front of them, poaching, and not on the potential long term risks. Swofford was hailed as a hero for “securing the future of the conference” by pushing through such a strong GOR that made it so punitive and impossible to leave. The problem with such a strong GOR is you have to have a lot of confidence in the abilities of the folks leading the conference that you’re tied to; obviously Swofford and his cronies were incompetent. Honestly we had plenty of evidence before signing the GOR to tell us that we couldn’t count on the decision making of ACC leadership.

Huge problem impacting CFP; legalized recruiting inducements through NIL. There are significant issues with NIL, but when you add to it unrestricted transfers and the portal it becomes catastrophic. Likewise signing such a restrictive GOR was a bit risky, but if we had not also agreed to such a clearly idiotic term on the TV contract the ACC probably would have survived.

Just as much as the ACC.
I do believe you’re on to something and we can work around the GoR. It’s just going to cost us a lot of money.
