A jailbreak conference of 8 ACC Teams

Clemson, Florida State, Miami, Louisville, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Virginia and NC State plus two others from among West Virginia, Navy or Cincinnati would command the same if not a larger television contract with FOX than what ESPN currently pays the ACC and with 10 schools the payout would be around $58 million per school. Why don't those schools just vote to dissolve the conference and bring two more partners into the fold?

The sticking point is the bringing of 2 more partners…

WVU and Cincy have a sure thing right now, so do they risk it hoping for a better payout?

Also, of those 8 ACC teams, who is going to draw enough eyeballs to command more than the ACC is getting now? I think the $58million is not a sure bet in this scenario.

I seriously think an 8-team "All Star" conference is the right answer here when competing with the super conferences. These bigger conferences aren't going to get the draw for every game when they mathematically push each other down in the standings. The reason the NFL season is as interesting as it is so late in the season is due to the 4-team divisions and the ability to catch back up.

It'll take some big programs, but shave the fat of a Duke/Wake/BC/etc and get some big programs and you'll draw a much larger TV deal payout per school. Unfortunately, the playoff won't give you an automatic bid without having a conference championship game, and you need 12 teams to do that.

If Clemson and FSU were to give that a run, realistically looking at teams they could get at this point in time, they'd need to go after something like this:

1. Clemson
2. FSU
3. Notre Dame
4. UNC
5. Utah
6. Stanford
7. Oklahoma State
8. TCU

Other options might include Miami, UVA, Baylor, TTech, and maybe Oregon and Washington.

I don't think I see 8 super teams in that proposed lineup. ND and Clemson, maybe FSU is about it.

Not sure that would do anything to improve the quality of ACC football. Cincy is average at best, WVU is mediocre with the inability to recruit or develop talent. Navy is a revenue game, cupcake. The only 2 with any pedigree are Clemson and FSU. No one else has even sniffed elite. This group wouldn't be any different from the PAC 10- except they're on the east coast.

It would be a time honored tradition. The original ACC was

a jailbreak of seven teams away from the old Southern Conference. Ever wonder what would have happened if we stayed in there? I do not think it would have been good.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Why not 4 from acc, 4 from big 12, and 4 from...

Clemson, fsu, Miami, and Unc. .
Oklahoma St, Colorado, Baylor, Notre Dame
Oregon, Washington, Utah, Stanford
