Why does Clemson never run a RB screen?

Even with ETN, we ran lots of swing passes and such. But we never set up a true RB screen.
Imagine against UGA on some of those 3rd and long situations when they brought the house. The screen game can really make a team think twice about bringing the house.
But I really don't ever remember this being part of our playbook. I'm sure there's a reason why.

Because a few years back TigerNet exploded when we would run one and only get 1 or 2 yards. I’m starting to realize the connection between the tnet poasts and our play calls. I think the opposing teams have too. Maybe if we start telling the coaches the opposite what we want them to run it’ll throw the other teams defense off.

Imagine where our program would be if the coaches knew how vital running the screen play would help us !
We could be really good and be a contender for the natty every year. Fire all the coaches!!!! The

Sweet!
COACHES, run a wr crossing route across the middle! Quick throw, gives our sweet WRs ability to keep running after catch.
Since you read tnet, put this in

On the second play of the game...

Will Shipley was wide-a$$ open for what would have likely been a sure touchdown had the ball not been batted down at the LOS. I don't recall if he was lined-up in the slot or in the backfield through.

Eyes and ball went towards the slant, then knocked down. Lofting it towards Shipley was 7pts

Two things
Sep 9, 2021, 11:23 AM
|
|
1 UGA rarely "brought the house". It just seemed like it since they penetrated our porous O-line so easily.
2 We threw a screen to Shipley but he was tackled behind the line for a loss. He had no chance on the play.

Well trained defenses don’t fall for the screen anymore. Defensive ends know when they are being blocked for real or for a screen so they just pull up and make a tackle. Linebackers and defensive backs are too quick and just run around linemen trying to block them and make the tackle. Screen plays have to be cleverly disguised and have a bit of luck. Hitting a RB on a wheel or in the flat tends to work better because he is out in space and one on one. If your guy wins the battle it can break for a big play.
As for Georgia they weren’t bringing the house. One their sacks was on a three man rush. Other times the LB would come once he realized he had no one to cover.

Sure I trust them to properly execute a screen but in the words of Captain Jean-Luc Picard: It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life.
