I doubt coaches think about recruiting services very much

remember T.J. Green from last years recruiting class? Very very late in the recruiting process (I think only a few weeks before signing day) He wasn't even ranked at all by most recruiting services I believe, Clemson offers (and gets a commitment) and half of T-net goes up in flames. The next week the recruiting services evaluate him and he's a 4 star prospect.

SC is a largely rural state with relatively limited media compared to Atlanta, New Orleans, Orlando, etc. Some of these SC players get 1/10 of the publicity of big city kids in California, Texas and Ohio when they possess the same talent levels. Small southern towns are fertile ground for NFL players.

There are talented young men such as Andre Ellington and hopefully Jae'lon Oglesby and CJ Fuller who with a year on the weights and in the system can achieve the heights that the Lattimore's and Gurley's sometimes achieve as freshmen. Yes, it is up to the coaches' criteria as they are the only ones who can compare how a small town SC 2A or 3A kid performed and could potentially perform in comparison to an Atlanta big school 4-star like James Davis.

IMHO James Davis deserves Clemson's gratitude for his play and willingness to share the ball and his recruitment of CJ. Very unselfish leader who was a catalyst for the team Clemson has today. When his playing days are up, he should consider coaching.
