Yes it is kinesiology tape and athletes in many sports (golf, basketball, gymnastics etc.) wear it. I had a torn bicep years ago and before I had surgery, the PT put tape on my arm It didn't help because I needed surgery.

how can you tell if that is the problem? Was yours visible or did it hurt when you reached across your chest to put deodorant on, as mine does? If yes, is surgery the only cure? Thanks in advance-

I tore my bicep about 15 years ago. I tore the long attachment that goes over the top of my shoulder. It was and still is very visible. Part of the muscle rolled down toward my elbow causing a large lump above the elbow. The doctor called it a “popeye tear”. The entire bicep area also bruised badly. They did an MRI and the other attachment in the front of the shoulder near the collarbone was in good shape so he told me he could reattach the torn connection at a different spot than where it originally was attached for cosmetic purposes. I declined surgery and it has been ok. Every now and then I do something that causes a little pain but overall it is ok. The motion that bothers it the most is using a screwdriver to tighten a screw.

I had my left bicep reattached at the shoulder due to damage to the tendon in an accident It had wear and tear but I got hit from behind on 85 and that was the last straw. Pieces of the end of my clavicle were broken off and grinding on the tendon.
The recovery is long and painful but it was already painful and I could not do basic tasks. Almost four yrs later I have 90%+ of the function back and I’m getting brave enough to try most things I used to do. For a long time I was just scared to push it hard. The tendon is a little shorter and it’s anchored in a little different of a spot so it feels different and it does feel tight at times and I can’t fully straighten it out overhead. If I had it to do over I would still get the surgery but during rehab I had my doubts.

The tape on the back of arms isn’t kinesiology tape. More likely, “moleskin”. Wore it on my feet during 20 mile “humps”. Football players wear it to prevent the aforementioned turf rash.

It started with the introduction of turf. Players wear it when playing on turf to prevent “field” burn. It’s been a while since I’ve played so maybe it’s spilled over to grass fields but it started due to turf.
