Why do people equate Trump with religion?

It is brought up often, evangelicals, etc. If you only look at the facts, Biden is more religious than Trump.

But Trump needed evangelicals, and fortunately, evangelical leaders are bought cheap, especially when promised power and noteriety.
Then you have the rank and file. People who are easily duped into believe Democrats are going to ban the Church, and fidelity to Trump, who fights, is a matter of spiritual life/death.
At the bottom you have the conspiracy nuts who believe Trump, Xi, Putin, and Un are all a part of a Christian alt-gov society and are secretly rooting out international cabals in the name of Jesus.

In attempting to stop capital punishment, war under any circumstances, and police shootings.
I'd also suggest if we're taking a look at the intersection of Trump and Evangelicals as it relates to the commandments, we might want to also consider:
"You shall have no other gods before me"
"You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name"
"You shall not commit adultery."
"You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor."
