Who is the best team this year? No clear dominant team..

I am really not sure who the best team is this year. Although Georgia played well Saturday night, they are obviously not the team they have been the last two years. At one point I thought Florida State was the best team, but they have deficiencies. Ditto for Notre Dame. Michigan gets a lot of praise and they may be the best team. What about Ohio State? They certainly are talented, but they lost a great quarterback, too. Washington looks very solid. As much as I do not like them, Alabama is slowly creeping back up and may end up 11 - 1 by the end of the season and sitting around #4. This year is wide open. Also, Oklahoma and Texas look to be very good. They will probably play in their conference title game, and the winner gets in the playoffs. As a Georgia fan, I have a real concern that Georgia may run the table in the regular season, be 12-0, and ranked #1. Then, just like in 2021 when they were ranked #1, lose to 11-1 Alabama in the SECCG. Bama would be in. If Georgia is ranked #1, but loses in the SEC title game to 11-1 Alabama would they still get in the play offs? I guess a lot depends on other teams, but that is a real concern of mine. In a strange irony, if that scenario played out what now might actually save Georgia is their schedule strength with teams they play really stepping up. So much season left, but this year is just incredibly wide open. No dominant team it appears.

What about you guys? Who is the best team?

It is as wide open as it has been for a while but I would still have to take UGA until someone proves otherwise. With their depth, talent, and playoff experience, they will be a tough out. The biggest question was QB but as he gains more confidence and experience, that is becoming less of a concern.

As long as they stay healthy, they are the team to beat to me.

"what now might actually save Georgia is their schedule strength with teams they play really stepping up"

Georgia has the easiest schedule of any team in the top 25. It's not even close.

Your guys sure looked the part Saturday. FSU has no run game and defense is talented but inconsistent. This year is a big argument for an expanded playoff. When Ohio State barely eeks out a victory against Notre Dame and Louisville (ranked 25) absolutely dominates them, it’s a year any team in a top 12 could get hot and win it all in an expanded playoff.

Kentucky shouldn’t have been ranked. They did what the number one team is supposed to do vs an over matched, under talented and unranked team. Nothing impressive about it, they just handled their business.

Agree. No Bama UGA LSU or Clemson from the last 10 years.

UGA and Michigan are probably the most complete and they have weaknesses.

Bucknuts have found a QB to go with those great WRs. D is suspect.

USC has to outscore everyone. UNC and USC would be a great game.

FSUs certainly not dominant.

Couple of dark horses. Bama, I know Bama, has gone back old school and it’s benefitted their QB.

Louisville looked like world beaters but I’ve seen this movie before with Brohm at Purdue.

Someone will get hot before the end of this month is my bet. Who? IDK.

that Lil' Nicky's team down in Tuscalooser is about to get it together and go on a run. I have thought all along that Milroe is a lot better than people gave him credit for being. He is VERY shifty, and is gaining confidence throwing the ball. Look out for that bunch in the second half of the season, and beyond.

I think by season end (when QB develops more) a UGA 3 peat.

As great as that would be, extremely unlikely. It would take 3 other undefeated teams and UGA losing to a 1 loss SEC champ.

Not Alabama, they had 23yds rushing total Saturday and 321yds passing without a QB1. This team is destined for another loss with stats like that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oregon...

2

Oct 9, 2023, 8:04 PM

Oregon's probably gonna end up winning it all imo. #2 in total offense and #6 in total defense. That Colorado game was an eye opener. Colorado is not a bad team offensively and they made them look like not even an FCS team but more like a high school team. Dan Lanning has that team humming. They're going to be hard for anyone to beat. Definitely not the Oregon of the past, them boys play defense.

I do not think there is a team that is clearly the “best” this year.

I do not think this was the case in 2022 either.

Respectfully, Georgia loses Semifinal against Ohio State if Marvin Harrison does not get hit like that.

Yes there will be a champion, but it will be a toss up between 4 teams basically on the same level.

Any team in the top-50 can beat anybody in the top-50.

I was wondering if Georgia could turn it on when they wanted to or needed to. Turns out they can. I didnt give Kentucky much respect, and rightfully so. It cant be easy for UGA to get up for every game for 3 straight years. They are #1 until they arent. I cant speak for every team because i dont know them that well. Ohio State could, Could be a contender. To do that, they have to be able to run the ball and convert on 3rd down. Ohio State is 67th in fbs at 40% conversion rate. Last year they were close to 50%. Also, Ohio State cannot run the ball to pick up a 3rd or 4th and short. Its kind of disgusting to watch. If they can somehow rectify those 2 things, they will be a really tough out. If they cant fix those issues, they are a pretender.

Re: Who is the best team this year? No clear dominant team..

Oct 10, 2023, 12:34 PM

That was like a 50 yarder last year. This years kicker is a walk on. So we shall see. Ohio State gave up way too many big plays last year. That was their achilles hell. I think we gave up 8 plays of 40 or more yards to Michigan and Georgia alone. Whether it was missed tackles, people falling down, blown assignments, or just the wrong call, The Buckeyes got burned BAD the last 2 games. So far this year, they havent given up a play of 40 yards yet.

UGA & Oklahoma at the top

USC will be unable to keep up with the top tier teams based on a defense that is non-existent and an offense that showed last week they can be slowed/stopped. Caleb Williams is pretty good but he is Dak Prescott in college form, win a lot of games but lose all the big ones.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Who is the best team this year? No clear dominant team..

1

Oct 10, 2023, 6:47 PM

Brother no. Caleb is literally carrying that team, they have nothing besides him and what he’s done the last two years is unbelievable. Caleb is a Trevor, Luck, Mahomes. He will be a top 10 NFL QB next year, he would be right now. Dak never has and never will be in Caleb’s league. Dak wears Caleb pajamas to bed.

Re: Who is the best team this year? No clear dominant team..

Oct 10, 2023, 12:52 PM

Georgia has two issues, as I see it:

1) Offensively, their running game is suspect, due to a rash of RB injuries, which has decimated your backfield.

2) Defensively, the DL is not as stout as previous years, and the Linebackers are getting lost and allowing teams to get to open space on the edge, i.e., they're being outflanked as guys are out of position.

Georgia has tried to compensate for this by becoming primarily a passing team. And Carson Beck is very good, and he has playmakers at WR & TE. In order for Georgia to get through this season and stay undefeated, they will have to outscore teams via a high-precision passing attack. That attack was unleashed on Auburn in the 2nd half last week, and the Kentucky game was the first time all year where this strategy paid off from the first snap.

Ultimately, you guys might wind up at 12-0. But it won't be easy against Missouri, Ole Miss, and Tennessee, all of whom will stress your defense, IMO.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Who is the best team this year? No clear dominant team..

Oct 10, 2023, 5:41 PM

Georgia is the only team mentioned that’s currently top 10 in both total offense and total defense, so it makes sense that it’s them, for now at least.

Beyond that, Michigan & Oklahoma have looked the part more so than any of the other top-10 teams that I’ve watched thus far.

I personally think it’s Washington. Watched a ton of college ball this year and Penix is the best player I’ve seen this year. Defense is pretty good. Maybe not great but good. They got great receivers. Michigan is good. UGA has looked shaky at times but are obviously good.

U Dub is the best team I’ve seen yet. I’ve watched them 3 different time and my goodness that offense is almost unstoppable.

They remind me so much of us during our years as WRU. They have 2 1st round WRs in Jalen McMillian and Rome Odunze and the slot guy Ja’Lynn Polk has speed to burn.

Michael Penix is the best pure passer in the country and that defense ain’t shabby either. I don’t know if they’ll win it all but I do believe they’ll at least make the playoffs and have a say in who does.

I will say this… Georgia/Alabama/Ohio St will NOT win the national championship this year.

In your 12-0 regular season and losing to Bama scenario, UGA wouldn’t have a single win all season over a ranked team and no conference title. No chance they get in regardless of what all other teams are doing. Not trolling or UGA bashing, same would be for Clemson with that schedule and scenario

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Michigan

be to put two SEC teams in the CFP, in spite of UGA playing one of the weakest power five schedules in the country!

The ACC could have two teams finish 12-1, and the CCG loser probably wouldn't even be considered for the CFP!
